Bok,
We do not use the DB2 backend for the MySQL. We use MySQL for the BOINC grid and DB2 for the Forums and the Website (and, prior to shutdown, the UD grid). thanks, Kevin |

I do some scraping myself so I have a couple of questions.
Will points be going away and be replaced with credits? It would be very helpful to know this ahead of time. Is there anywhere that says the times when the stats updates occur? |

Soon we'll be seeing BOINC credits on the My Grid page instead of old UD points.
----------------------------------------There are 2 formal updates daily at 12:06 UTC and 00:06 UTC. (Midnight). Latter includes the daily team stats. Found that it takes as long as till 02:30-03:00 UTC for the data to be available. I run my daily query after 05:00 CET and not found it pulling empty sheets. [Added: As per knreed posts above, availability times should improve after the conversion and implementation of the new hardware and db.]

I assume the BOINC credits will be 1/7th of our points?
I keep a daily history of points for my team. I'd rather not just cut over and start fresh on my stats, so I should be able to divide each day's points by 7 to move my data to credits. Is that correct? |

Hi,
----------------------------------------It is reasonable to assume, that My Grid will show something that cumulates the former UD points with a division factor 7 to the BOINC credits that you see in your client. It's reasonable to assume, that Individual/Teams daily historic data will show the combined value, but expressed in BOINC equivalents. What is not known is if the historical figures as accumulated with the UD agent divvied by 7 will also add on the BOINC client side and if those numbers will get transmitted to the 3rd party BOINC statistics sites i.e. that what is drawn from the XML will be the sum. I'd hold off till firmer news is made public. cheers

I hadn't thought of that... so, it is possible that any points gained through UD will not be shown in the BOINC XML's (just like today), thus places like BOINCStats will show different credits than are shown here.
I can see both sides of that one.. Either BOINCStats.com (and similar) will have a big one day jump when UD stats are added to the XML's or BOINCStats and WCG's stats will forever be out of sync, thus confusing many. I vote for UD stats being added to the XML.. you asked for my input on this, rihgt. Thanks for the info Sek. |

Well, the conversion is a one-off since there are no more UD points being added (everyone's on BOINC). I can see the sense of doing this as part of the db conversion with the DB2 upgrade. Not doing it would forever leave WCG stats and stat sites out of sync generating endless what's up/howcum/whyizit posts here. Not having to deal with that alone is enough to justify the one-off!
---------------------------------------- Only negative I see is that it's sometime in the next five months (aren't users supposed to want everything yesterday? Where's the Timeless chip when you need it!). |

We were thinking of waiting until after the BOINC Workshop in Sept before doing anything. Willy from BOINCStats usually attends and I wanted to check his reaction to a big one time jump from us due to a sync up. However, since our wise members are already reaching the same conclusions that we did in regards to what we believe to be the best course of action we are just going spill the beans now.
As Keithhenry noted we have two possibilities: 1) Keep the website database and the boinc database having separate values. This would mean that any user that ever contributed with the UD agent would forever have their points on the website != their credits at external stat sites and on the BOINC agent. 2) Sync everything at one time and be done with it. At some point later this year (we will announce it ahead of time) we will divide all 'points' on the website by 7. This will give us equivalently sized points on the website with credits in the BOINC db (and thus the exported XML files and info on the BOINC agent). We will then export the credit totals for members and teams and update the BOINC database with those values. This will make the BOINC db and Website db have consistent values as well as the values on the BOINC agent will agree with what is on the website. Although this will result in a one time large jump of credit for users/teams/wcg on the external stat sites, we will then forever be in sync (baring technical glitches of course). Other options will result in a never ending stream of questions asking why the values are different. And with all issues surrounding credit..... let the debates and arguments begin..... |
