[sarcasm]Wow, a whole week and nothing but complaints![/sarcasm] Kevin, I imagine you and your team are well aquainted with the folks running the major stat sites. Go ahaed and send them some sort of "we're planning to do this - scream now if you see problems with it" notice and then "geterdun". Acutally, one of the things I've read about most about WCG on other sites is gripes about us not using credits and our weird point system so we'll gain there too. How soon can the conversion happen?

Acutally, one of the things I've read about most about WCG on other sites is gripes about us not using credits and our weird point system so we'll gain there too. Strictly speaking you are right and I think we should go ahead anyway. After a few weeks nobody will think of it any more. However right after the move we may anticipate a few gripes from teams which always rejected UD if/when they see some teams which got most of their points under UD overtaking them. Or WCG itself overtaking Einstein@Home... Never mind... Jean. |

2) Sync everything at one time and be done with it. At some point later this year (we will announce it ahead of time) we will divide all 'points' on the website by 7. This will give us equivalently sized points on the website with credits in the BOINC db (and thus the exported XML files and info on the BOINC agent). We will then export the credit totals for members and teams and update the BOINC database with those values. This will make the BOINC db and Website db have consistent values as well as the values on the BOINC agent will agree with what is on the website. Although this will result in a one time large jump of credit for users/teams/wcg on the external stat sites, we will then forever be in sync (baring technical glitches of course). Other options will result in a never ending stream of questions asking why the values are different. And with all issues surrounding credit..... let the debates and arguments begin..... Ehh, just do it. Strange to post Team UD points on Team web pages and then have to post individual Team Member stats using Boinc. Very confusing. Lot's of folks confused by now. ![]() |

[sarcasm]Wow, a whole week and nothing but complaints![/sarcasm] I am very pleased at positive reaction. I will notify those stats folks that I have emails for - but everyone should also let their favorite external stats site know about the pending change as well. For history, we will probably generate the BOINC xml stat files once right before we sync up and then once right after. Then if anyone wants to see exactly what was changed, they will be able to. |

I don't have any objection to dividing everyone's score by seven so that we are consistent with using BOINC credits everywhere.
But to convert UD results into BOINC results that has never been done by BOINC and then comparing the UD+BOINC with other sites doesn't sound quite right. Yes I know you intend to eliminate questions raised with UD vs BOINC. Why not just have two separate sets of data, namely UD and BOINC as well as total. You can rank users by the UD data by itself or the BOINC data by itself or rank the total. And when you report the BOINC scores to other sites, you only report the BOINC data. And you can have links in various places to FAQ that explains the UD vs BOINC. JB |

Or WCG itself overtaking Einstein@Home... Never mind... Jean. Since you bring it up - I believe that in the next 24-36 hours the total credit awarded by World Community Grid for BOINC clients will pass the total credit awarded by ClimatePrediction.Net From BOINC Stats: CPDN: 5,717,902,114and the difference yesterday between the output was 18,630,233 - 6,840,814 = 11,789,419 credit ![]() |
