Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 27 smilesmile

Edit: And by the way. 6 million by new years. I don't know what will happen when I go to college. :S If computers will run or what.

Well, if you plan to be down at UCSC all the time - aside from semester breaks, that might be a bit of a challenge. If you'll be heading home (perhaps with laundry in tow) for the weekends, not so much of a challenge. You may need to un-overclock them some - enough that they don't need regular watching over. Also, you may be able to do something like folks do with Go2MyPC (without having to pay for something like Go2MyPC) so that you can monitor and such from UCSC and only need to have your folks do an occasional re-boot for you. So, it should be possible - now to make it practical.

I probably won't be coming home often. There's a underground shuttle that goes from there to a station at home but it's $10. (Easier than driving through that mountain rode what winds back and forth.) Reboot isn't needed and temps are fine since it'll be Fall/Spring. If I get a single room.. I might bring Quad over; considering that it doesn't get stolen

So I never found out.. Been here for 6 months.
What's the story behind the crunching dedication for everyone here?

Me. It's just to help out, and give back. I started with Folding@Home on this computer here. Then I got interested in it and later moved to WCG. I built my dedicated Quad in the Fall and here I am now.

I'm with Blizzie on this one. My grandmother died of cancer when I was very young, so of course I have some affinity towards cancer research programs. But to be honest, I think the global AIDS epidemic is more problematic - thus I run FAAH mostly.

Yea, I suspected as much. Most college students that see home beyond semester breaks are commuter students. wink A single could be nice - if you like a broom closet with a bed shoved in it. laughing A quad might keep it a bit toasty, even in winter. I'd be inclined to be able to have it well hid anytime anyone else was in the room but then there's the hum and the ventilation. Then again, there's always the old standby - bolt that sucker down! biggrin With heat not an issue and the machines being stable, simplest thing may just be to leave them running at home. If the points drop off, you can always call home. wink Still, I'm just happy seeing you do in less than seven months what I still haven't done in 3.5 years!

Ah.. Sorry about that. :(

I have no personal experiences with any of this stuff yet.

And Keith. My Quad stays at 60 C in 85 F room temperature and 100 F outside. I think I'm set for any temperature. biggrin
