No, it's been discussed many times already on these fora that the one blocking is Windows Defender. Re-Install BOINC as a previously mentioned 'Service' (see recent discussions and FAQ), and BOINC will run even before you log in and without the need to launch via BOINCmgr. Now, this is a general BOINC problem fixed with the next version and nothing specific to WCG if that was so stated at the Berkeley fora.

I told boinc manager to stop accepting new tasks and after the ones I had were done and uploaded I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it as a service. I guess I have to accept that it is running after boot because the icon does not show up until I manually start boinc manager. I guess this is why vista is not the popular. It is insane that when it gives me the option to run the blocked programs it does not give me the option to either unblock it for only this time or for all times. It usually takes up to a week or so before the results are validated and show up in ones stats.

Let's face it: there's plenty of blame for both Vista and BOINC :-S
Most of your tasks should validate within a couple of days of returning them. There will inevitably be the odd straggler that takes a lot longer. An "average validation time" metric would be interesting, but not useful. |

Hi!
----------------------------------------2RicktheBrick Mostly results from project with big number of replications for each WU takes more time to be validated (Nutricious Rice for ex.). If you want your results to be validated faster - select project with WU quorum 2 ![]() ![]() |

If you want your results to be validated faster - select project with WU quorum 2 ![]() Although the worst can happen with any project and any validation scheme if you are not lucky, statistically the probability that you had WUs waiting 12 days or more because of results not returned in time is lower with projects like NRW than for those with a quorum of 2. For projects with a 14/19 quorum you need to have 26 % of participants not responding in time for being stuck till the deadline. This is fortunately much more than what happens practically. On the other hand it is true that the probability to have a WU validated within one day is lower too because that would need 74 % express crunchers. Also the 14/19 projects require a minimum time of runtime which is higher than for HCC or DDDT for example. For HPF2 you may have to wait for very slow machines that will need one day of CPU or more to do the job, but with NRW there is no such problem, the CPU time will be about 8 hours whatever the speed of the processor. Personally I have one P4 returning 3 NRW WUs per day and currently I have only 5 WUs pending validation, the oldest of which having been distributed at 5:12 UTC on the 20th (less than 3 days). And the fastest validated ones are usually validated within 24 hours. Cheers. Jean. |

Hi!
----------------------------------------2Scribe Two WUs is not a big deal. I'm having 7 or 8 WU waiting for validation right now. And at least 3 of them are waiting more then 5 days. It's pretty normal, I guess. 2JmBoullier Your Kun-Fu is good , but does not seem to give 100% correct answer. As for me, just practically, I wait a lot of time for a small number of HCC WUs. But generally NRW WU takes more time to validate then HCC.Dmitrio ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Dmitrio at Jun 23, 2008 9:30:12 AM] |
