Is there something new to the conversion question of UD points to Boinc Credits? Is there any plan for conversion?
Please do it ;-) -------------------- Q: Will the UD agent points get transferred to BOINC? A: It is not known at this time if they ever will. The My Grid page will combine the Credits/Points, Run Time and Results processed. The BOINC Manager Project tab only shows the credits earned with BOINC *before conversion to WCG points*. |

Natures course will find it's way once UD has been fully switched off, which it has not. Several options are considered and one is biting the bullet, which whatever way is taken will never find 100% agreement.
----------------------------------------This is as non-cryptic as I can say it ;>)

Assuming WCG wants to re-assign UD credits to BOINC devices, there would be a problem if the information is not available to show which device (hardware or whatever), now under BOINC, crunched which points under UD.
More generally, I think it would be more useful to show on crunchers' "My Grid" pages the number of "ACTIVE" Device Installations, rather than plain (all-time total) Device Installations. A device could be automatically re-classified as Inactive if it did not return a result within some period, say 2 months, or when it is explicitly deemed so by the member; it would reinstate itself if it later returned a result. The UD points could be added in with the "Inactive Devices" points. The current plain "Device Installations" parameter does not indicate whether the member has a roomful of machines actively crunching for her/him (interesting), or whether (s)he has only a few machines currently crunching, but has upgraded his/her hardware and retired old machines many times (less interesting). Would such a scheme work and would it keep a reasonable number of UDers happy? |

No, a former UD agent device's points will not likely be added to the host credit of the same physical BOINC device. Think that as a bridge too far and certainly unreliable.
----------------------------------------ACTIVE is already shown by default. The initial display only shows those devices that returned a result in the last 14 days. The filter has to be broadened to see any older/inactive. Would an older 'inactive' be revived, it would show again with all it's credits, provided that a re-install did not result in it being identified as a new device. How far WCG will be adopting the merge features of BOINC I don't know. I tried it a few times elsewhere and in cases the project was not able to match the records (host ID, OS and other parms).

The "Device Installations" parameter in my "My Grid" or publicly-accessible "Member Statistics" page shows 3. Sorry, but I have never had 3 ACTIVE devices. I have 2 active devices, plus the UD device, which returned its 3rd and last result from me on 20 September 2006.
I can see that Sekerob has 17 "Device Installations", but I don't know how to access his "Device Statistics" page to see how many are active. ![]() |

We know. This has been on the todo list for longer than I can remember. Hopefully now UD is dead and gone, things like this can be dealt with.

Rickjb,
----------------------------------------"2 active devices, plus the UD device", that makes three, no? The "Device installations" does not say it is the number of your currently active devices. In fact it is the total number of devices that have been used/defined since you started with WCG. Whether it is an interesting or useful information is obviously another matter. Cheers. Jean. |
