Hi, having a quite strong dual-core machine (Intel Core 2 Duo E8200, 2 GB RAM, 0.8 TB HDD) I have suffered from strong system instabilities when using HCC client, system is almost workloadfree (ca. 3-5% CPU usage, 665 MB page memory usage by DVB-S services). CPU usage diagram is saw-shaped and TV broadcast reception is strongly disturbed even after decreasing CPU load assigned to HCC

I dont know what 665mb DVB-S service is. Tell us more.
----------------------------------------As for HCC, it's actually the second lowest RAM user. Initially I think perfect setting for u would be to configure BOINC to not crunch when system in use and set the resume delay to e.g. 1 or 2 hours and extend the disk write setting to 999 seconds. I think some have asked specifically for a sleep option when running DVD/TV type services. I've started to use Process Lasso that can manage priorities and since then streaming video is really without ripples both on XP (MM with T5600 CPU) and Vista. The hacksaw throttle is best switched off i.e. set CPU use back to maximum / at 100%. It's the stop/start that is no good and was purely designed for hot running devices, typically laptops. BOINC is supposed to back off when other processes of higher than lowest priority ask for attention, thus try said Process Lasso and define the video/TV programs to always run above normal priority. Works for me.
