I tried. It stays at 100% still o.O I think you have to wait for the next contact with the server for that to take hold. Just a guess. Well I wanted something that can switch on the spot. |

Blizzie, if you're changing your profile settings, you can force the change thru by clicking on the Update button on the Projects page. That will force the server to update your machine. BOINC uses the lowest priority so it will back off on its own when your game is running. That may be good enough but you could be running some of the real high end games where every millisecond counts. Another option there is to simply right click on the BOINC icon in the system tray and click on Snooze. That immediately suspends all computation. Play your game and then repeat to un-Snooze. The 80% setting in your profile will be effective ALL the time, not just when you're game playing. Snooze stops all crunching and you have to remember to un-Snooze too. The profile setting may be better if you'll do a lot of game playing, Snooze if it's just occasional.Edit: Another possible option to consider: Set the "Do work while computer is in use" setting in the profile to No. You can also then add a delay with the "Do work only after computer is idle for" setting. That will apply to when you do anything on that machine, not just game playing but if you do your game playing on your machine that you only crunch on, it could work. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by keithhenry at May 2, 2008 1:38:14 PM] |

Huummm ... works for me. I have my main machine set at 75% and it does not delay or interfere with movies, real-time stock quotes or other high CPU tasks. BTW: if you look in messages when you change the percentage you will see that it rereads the machine profile and does the change immediately. I can't say why it did not work for you. The beta wu's for the new project are going nicely. I have 19 of them so far. Quorum for them is 15 so will take a while to validate them. Crunch on .... ![]() ![]() |

I'll avoid that one like I avoid corvette's. Yep, the Saleen is on the road for another Summer. *** Received 50+ beta's so far today for 3 different projects. All have behaved nicely and about a third have validated so far. The new project is certainly different. Each WU runs for two hours +/- 5 minutes regardless of the platform. They run very well. I do hope it does not turn out to be a genetically modified food project though ... but everything points in that direction. Anyone hear from Dave? ![]() ![]() |

Anyone hear from Dave? I'm around, but the cellulitis is as well. I have been told to stay in bed with the leg elevated, so I'm not at my desk that much. I did buy myself a new toy. I got the Amazon Kindle eBook reader. It is quite nice, but I can't read in bed (I start checking eyelids for light leaks quite quickly). First two books: "Dreamers of the Day: A Novel" by Mary Doria Russell and "The Revolution: A Manefesto" by Ron Paul. |

Thought you took a vacation to China Beach. I finally finished "A Short History of Nearly Everything" which I read a while ago but found more enjoyable to "re-read" as an ebook. Nice refresher course in Physics. You hang in there!! ![]() ![]() |
