Re: Graphics ? What graphics...?

That just means the task list loses focus when you click on the button - all perfectly normal.

The only question is why does nothing happen? There may be a clue in one of the log files. Please will you help me out and find the stderr.txt file in the slot directory? /var/lib/boinc-client/slots/0/ in your case, I think.

This is the only entry in that file:

No heartbeat from core client for 31 sec - exiting

This log file is more interesting:

/var/lib/boinc-client/slots/1$ more stderr.txt

Re: Graphics ? What graphics...?

That's the same sort of error you will get on a headless machine.

Clearly, your distro doesn't have graphics set up the way BOINC expects. We can try to help, but I think you will get a more accurate response from your distro's support group.

Re: Graphics ? What graphics...?

I think this must somehow be connected to my xorg.conf file - I will try the Ubuntu forum to see if others have run into this.
Thanks for you help.

Re: Graphics ? What graphics...?

Read about this loss of focus phenomena about a year ago when operating the graphics button, so a fix must be there. Let us know what you find for future reference.

thanks

Re: Graphics ? What graphics...?

Hi Brink,
I am now running Edubuntu 8.04 and the 5.10.45 agent and still no graphics. Tell me, are the graphics like the line graphs on the staitics page .. or are they worth 'searching for'?

Thanks,
JQ

Well...I upgraded to 8.04 also and it's broken now. But I don't run boinc manager so it's really not a problem for me. As to your question, it was not like the line graphs on the stats page. Are they worth looking at ? not to me.

I don't use *buntu. But I do have BOINC installed as a daemon into its own account.

To show graphics, I have to do

[kathryn@Galaxy ~]$ xhost +si:localuser:boinc

It replies "localuser:boinc being added to access control list" and then my graphics work. I seem to only have to do this after each reboot. It will survive starting and stopping the daemon.

Re: Graphics ? What graphics...?

Hi Kathryn,
I tried that and the response was as you listed. Unfortunately the result was the same with an error message in stderrgfx.txt of
freeglut (graphics_app): failed to open display ''

I am not THAT intrigued - and will leave it alone.

Thanks anyway.

JQ
