Finally, the final proof is there... Herschel Space Telescope found O2 [the molecule] in the Orion Nebula... it is everywhere in the cosmos... maybe our other uncle is hiding there too ;P

With only one biochemist and lots of geologists, I doubt we'll be hearing Martians. I'll find it fascinating no matter what it might be, however.

Breathtaking New Images of the MOON
For the past two years, NASAâs Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter LRO) has been orbiting the Moon, gathering data that will help astronauts prepare for long-duration expeditions to the lunar surface, and eventually push further into the âinfinite frontier of space.â (Read more about the big picture plan here here ) As part of this mission, the LRO has traveled approximately 50 kilometers (31 miles) above the Moon, creating a 3-D map of the lunar surface. And now weâre receiving images that show us the Moon in unprecedented detail and focus. The valleys. The craters. The desolate surface. Theyâre all there, as never seen before, in HD. |

Arp 302 or VV 340, Two Colliding Galaxies
Galactic grammar: Collision between two nebulas produces cosmic exclamation mark It hardly needed to be highlighted, but this cosmic exclamation mark is the unfolding collision between two galaxies. VV 340 - also known as Arp 302 and located 450million light years from Earth - provides a textbook example of colliding galaxies seen in the early stages of their interaction. The edge-on galaxy near the top of the image is VV 340 North, while the face-on galaxy at the bottom of the image is VV 340 South. Scroll down for video |

Some solar eruption seems to have almost blasted Venus out of the sky. See video:
http://www.spaceweather.com/images2011/17aug1...ad5fl705cbmp4gj2ft6gs2ei2 It's actually appearances as the planet is really way behind the sun from the observatories' perspective. As the movie shows, the CME passed harmlessly. There was no collision, and it wasn't even close. Although Venus seems to be near the sun, the planet is actually more than 100 million kilometers away. The two bodies are "in conjunction" this week as Venus moves almost directly behind the sun. Because of this arrangement, more CME-Venus conjunctions are possible in the days ahead. Check SOHO for the latest images. Will Nicolas Cage dodge the solar flames in 2012 :? --//-- |
