Why is editing needed at all? Somebody is trying to tweak the queue, which can be done a lot easier by starting and stopping projects, suspending and resuming workunits, and changing network access frequency and days of reserve workunits.
----------------------------------------This wouldn't be for the timid. The BOINC forum states that it is only read when BOINC is started. It is a STATUS file that BOINC writes to continuously.

An earlier BOINC version mis-estimated the download speed. This was fixed, and editing the state file is no longer required or recommended.
If you still don't meet the network requirement, then you will probably have difficulty with ACH units if you lie about your speed. |

For sure Didactylos ...
----------------------------------------but is my opinion that the best way to get WU's from AC@H project (considering that the requirements was satisfied) is change the projects preferences inside WCG web site, setting just AC@H as preferred project... After it, all interested crunchers in AC@H need have a huge luck to be awarded with a WU due the probability of your machine be choose (once there are small numbers of WU's available each day. just to compare, yesterday was returned just 95 results, reached 29776results returned in total since begin of this project last year...). Other alternative will be do the steps recommended by RETSOF bellow. Hope that anyone have more creative ideas. Best Regards. Giba.

It's all very hypothetical, as no change will be made now with only 2.x cycles left to go out. The whole set-up is going under review as how to handle this in a future phase, as and when it comes. So for now hang in there, knob it and hope you get 1.
----------------------------------------Off Topic: I'm surprised the idea has not been expressed by anyone to hand out the AC@H badges for a lower contribution.... 7 days of CPU time for instance (or maybe there was, but ageing prevents me from recollecting).

Sekerob, great idea about the AC@H badge ! At least will satisfy many crunchers with a little bit WU's contribution for this project. In this case, I think that the good standard to implement would be a percentage relation in terms of completed work for AC@H, compared with the worst case project running in WCG (in terms of total ran time). Will be a great idea too if is possible to extend and implement similar approach like that for BETA projects (to be qualified for Beta badge in the same way, once Beta's are rare compared with any project). Despite of this idea, I'm not sure that all of this discussion and noise around get WU's from AC@H are just to get badge from this project... I really believe that have a lot of people asking for the opportunity to contribute and help in all projects that is possible for everyone... Regards. Giba.

That was a good idea. In fact we are doing to do it now.
----------------------------------------Just for everyone's information, here is a breakdown in contribution for ACH and DDDT: Stats: 5598 members have at least 1 second of cpu time for ACH1 2083 members have returned 1 day of cpu time for ACH1 760 members have returned 3 days of cpu time for ACH1 266 members have returned 7 days of cpu time for ACH1 99 members have returned 14 days of cpu time for ACH1 (this is the current policy) For comparison 78,921 members have at least 1 second of cpu time for DDDT 53,022 members have returned 1 day of cpu time for DDDT 36,500 members have returned 3 days of cpu time for DDDT 23,924 members have returned 7 days of cpu time for DDDT 15,385 members have returned 14 days of cpu time for DDDT (this is the current policy) We have decided to set the threshold for badges for ACH at 1 cpu day. We will make the change now although it may take several hours for the badges to show up due to caches in the forum software. [Edit 1 times, last edit by knreed at Mar 20, 2008 3:11:40 PM] |

If you still don't meet the network requirement, then you will probably have difficulty with ACH units if you lie about your speed. Not to mention you will be delaying the resolution of that work unit to the project and to those who have the horsepower/bandwidth to process it. I have had workunits sit around for a week or more in the pending state waiting for that lone cruncher to either return a result or time out. Wow! Looks like I had at least 1 cpu day [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 20, 2008 4:08:15 PM] |

Wow. Only 99 of us have the badge at the current (14 days) policy?
----------------------------------------Seems a lot more reasonable to have it at 1 day, then (given the small numbers). [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 20, 2008 4:09:05 PM] |

Most ideas stem from personal interest and drinking wine Diana (and another way for the hook, line and sinker 'agenda' of 1 year crunching just to get 1 badge for 1 day)
----------------------------------------Other idea is to include in the badge hover pop up the amount of time minimum like "AfricanClimate@Home for 1 CPU day" or "Help Cure Cancer for 14 days CPU time" et cetera. Of course, calls for an FAQ to show case all the badges and the different contribution thresholds.... only Uplinger has them all btw.... he lab tests everything ! ttyl Oops, Tedi if you read this, can you please amend the help item to reflect the change: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewSearch.do?searchString=badge
