Looks good. Total price?

1550 with shipping. Not too shabby if I do say so myself. I'm going to need your help when I overclock to 3ghz. Also, I think I read this right, but I can swap in any processor that fits the LGA 775 slot, right? So eventually I could upgrade to a faster processor that fits the motherboard?

Yes sir.

I bet I can make it about $1200 if I made it myself. ;)

Edit: I take it back. The keyboard, mouse, and speakers. tongue

Oh I'm sure YOU could. But I sure as heck couldn't. I have no idea how to apply thermal compound, install a heat sink, attach a power supply, etc. I wish I had the time to learn all of this since I am so interested in computing. However, what with full time grad school and all I'm not too free to choose my activities. I'll have to relegate myself to changing graphics cards, RAM, hard drives, fans, etc. I'm thinking I'm going to need 3-5 case fans to keep this badboy cool once I OC. Is 3 ghz too audacious?

Lets make a bet shall we? I bet you can reach 3.0 GHz in ONE attempt. Stable.

3.0 GHz is nothing. Raise the FSB a notch. Keep Vcore at stock. Boom. There you go. Takes a minute.

I thought about building it for you and then shipping it over. But I don't want to be responsible if it's lost in the mail or something. laughing

How fast can you go and remain stable and reliable on a 2.4g 6600 quad?

Most overclockers stop at 3.6 GHz. The people who are lucky and get good CPUs can go further. 3.6 GHz takes a few day of tweaking and stress testing to get it stable.

Let me tell you something. The RAM you're getting is't the best thing in the world. It works great at it's rated speed but it won't overclock. Sorry. I just have to get the best stuff. Don't mind me. tongue

Why do I need to overclock my ram?

For fun. biggrin

But not as important as ocing the CPU, right?

Nope. You won't even need to. Your FSB:RAM ratio will be 1:1 if you get your Quad to 3.6 GHz. Is your goal 3.0?

http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=330562

I have mine at 1066 MHz.
800 -> 1066

I want to shoot for a stable 3ghz out of the box. Once I get comfortable with it, get in a few burn ins, and note down the core temps, then I'll start thinking about 3.2 - 3.4. But that's not for awhile.

If you get on AIM I'll help you once you get your system.

Jeez. Spamming the team board like crazy here... laughing

LOL! How many replies will it let us make?

I don't know.. I don't know. laughing

Why would we ever edit out any of the quotes? It's so convenient and compact to have them all right here in front of me.

PS: Sorry we jacked your forum - hope you feel better!

Takes a while to scroll.

I hope you feel better Keith. smile

Going to grab 2x1 GB of Crucial Ballistix RAM from stores. biggrin
http://shop3.outpost.com/product/5375608?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Edit edit: Woot! I got a new project badge. biggrin

I'm thinking about getting more RAM and/or faster RAM as soon as my pc arrives. Do you recommend GSKIL or Crucial Ballistix?

Always use the same type of RAM.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122

These win. Hands down. Aren't you getting 2 GB with your computer? Notice that only 64 bit Windows can address the full 4 GB. 32 bit will only see about 2.35-3.5 GB.

Edit: Or you can get 2 sets of these.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146565

Since they're on sale at the moment. But you'll have 4 sticks then. But you save about $15. Then the rebates.. Just go for G. Skills. laughing

Hey, have you guys checked this thing out?

http://free-dc.myminicity.com/

Seen it before. Don't see what's so great about it.

http://www.aitmart.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=6

Free sample compound.
Promo Code: 108c0f6633

1.5g is tiny.. I guess it really is a sample.

BTW, you do know I'm going to pwn you hardcore when i get my new rig up and running, right Blizzie?

Dream on. An overclocked Q6600 can't take an overclocked E6600 and a Q6600.

Wait.. He has his other computer(s).... shock shock
Oh snap. crying

Yeah, you seem to have forgotten that it will be 4 v 2 (with a fifth on the way)!

We'll see. We'll see.

Psssttt.. Someone buy me a $90 motherboard. I need to overclock my Q6600 to 3.4-3.6 GHz. crying

I guess I have to be nice since you'll be helping me OC anyway! I'm looking forward to a big spike in my points!

That stinks.. Luckily you had surge protectors. At least I know they really do come in handy now. No equipment damage I hope?

Best of luck to you.

Hopefully we are doing some good

Gerald, what you do is downright phenomenal! I don't hit bills like that for electricity except during the heat of summertime! Springtime is usually when electricity bills are the lowest as you're not running the AC like in the summer or running a heat pump in the freezing winter. You have no reason to ever feel like you're slacking off or not doing enough. Your commitment more that speaks for itself. Retirement is supposed to be those years you get to enjoy the fruits of your labors. Don't forget to enjoy the time too.

From what you describe, I suspect the storms and tornadoes we had lately went up the coast and hit you. The second round that hit the northern Atlanta area brushed me. We caught a small gap between some strong stuff a few miles to the north and the really nasty stuff that was probably in eyesight of me to the south. Right after it passed here, it broke loose big time. It sounds like you were in the vicinity of a directly lightning hit to the power lines. The surge that causes is severe. It's one thing to have a breaker trip but to fry like that, you took a surge that was strong enough to arc across the normal gap in the breaker when it tripped and it sounds like it melted (by design I believe). Still, the milliseconds that took was still enough time to let the surge get to your protectors and fry them. Something tells me you were extremely fortunate. It may be a wise thing to get your whole electrical system checked as there could be areas that, while still operable, may have some damage, enough that you don't have the same level of protection now.

I guess I'm sorta in the purgatory that exists between the two. I'm on the road back but I ain't home yet. Guess that's part of why I'm still up at 2AM putting away the last of my laundry - and hoping that the naps I got today will let me crawl back out in four hours and start the next cycle. biggrin Nite all!

800 -> 1066

I hope you feel better Keith. smile

Going to grab 2x1 GB of Crucial Ballistix RAM from stores. biggrin

Edit edit: Woot! I got a new project badge. biggrin

I'm thinking about getting more RAM and/or faster RAM as soon as my pc arrives. Do you recommend GSKIL or Crucial Ballistix?

Always use the same type of RAM.

These win.

Seen it before. Don't see what's so great about it.

Free sample compound.

I'm looking forward to a big spike in my points!

wink

I'm curious if the text is going to collapse in on itself. What will happen when it cannot indent the quoted text any farther?
