Hi, just joined the team. Signed up to WCG after the Ebola press releases and actually got 1 WU on my first day. But nothing since. So currently crunching with 4 cores and on occasion 5 for whatever I get sent (that fifth core is really slow – but a good space heater). Spent a lot of time trying to decide whether to support a local team (geography) or an international team (cause). It did not seem like the local guys were all too proactive – so I'm here. Yay ! Don't know how long I'll hang around. Guess that's not too important in the grand scheme. Never the less, I'm here – and as the Genie said to Bugs Bunny “I'm here! I'm here! Let the bells ring out and the banners fly! Feast your eyes on me! It's too good to be true, but I'm here! I'm here! ” (Jim Backus as the Genie – Parkinson Disease 1989) Anyway, goal: to spin my fans for a good cause and crunch for a while before moving on to the next best thing. JC, thanks for the link, very amusing post.
It motivated me to look up my old seti@home account. Surprisingly after 8 inactive years it still works. Seems that back in 2006 I accumulated 8,964 credits or 62,748 WCG “dog year” points. If I recall correctly I had a slow boat anchor of a computer hammering away for months. But now, I should be able to process the same amount of work here in just a few days. Guess I'll just let those old seti@home points fade away along with perhaps “billions and billions” of credits from other inactive accounts. |

JC, thanks for the link, very amusing post. It motivated me to look up my old seti@home account. Surprisingly after 8 inactive years it still works. Seems that back in 2006 I accumulated 8,964 credits or 62,748 WCG âdog yearâ points. If I recall correctly I had a slow boat anchor of a computer hammering away for months. But now, I should be able to process the same amount of work here in just a few days. Guess I'll just let those old seti@home points fade away along with perhaps âbillions and billionsâ of credits from other inactive accounts. BCHiker, I once ran Seti for a whopping two or three days just to check it out. Later crunched several years later at UD.org.
