---------------------------------------- As you may know, the HCC GPU units have ended or are bieing crunched depending on work cache. Oh well, perhaps we will see more GPU projects very soon.  http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,34948 The Free-DC stats website is presently down: Repairs under way.... 11/13/2012 - UPDATE. Looks like it's one of the sets of SATAIII controllers on the database server. With the additional SSD drive I received last week I should be able to get the stats going today using only the other connections, though one of them is a SATAII. I'll need to replace the mobo at some point. I'd actually like to have a full hot standby but given the specs that's unlikely short term. As aI've had a few people ask if they can donate, I'm adding the donate button here too. Bok I will check them later this afternoon; usually it has taken anywhere from 2-3 days for Free-DC to come back to service. I hope it will be very soon. Do any of you think that the WCG will have more of these GPU work units? While I believe WCG is definitely open to GPU projects, the problem is the research scientists need information processed in a certain way given the logarithm/science needed to successfully achieve accurate results. Because of the nature of the science/project, GPU may not be feasible for various research projects. Based upon what has been posted in another WCG thread, it would appear that no GPU projects may be in the "pipeline." (http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,34948_offset,20) as stated by lawrenceharden, WCG CA. This posting by a CA may be speculation, as the real situation is that lack of GPU is not a WCG fault. The scientific projects being run or entertained may not compatible or suitable for GPU processing. WCG/IBM does not create these projects, outside research facilities do based upon the required scientific procedure to obtain accurate results that addresses the potential solution. Remember, HCC was in part designed to "Improving X-ray crystallography will enable researchers to determine the structure of many cancer-related proteins faster." WCG/IBM does not create these projects, outside research facilities do based upon the required scientific procedure to obtain accurate results that addresses the potential solution. Remember, HCC was in part designed to "Improving X-ray crystallography will enable researchers to determine the structure of many cancer-related proteins faster." Their scientific objectives allowed for GPU processing. Ray, that is indeed true. Perhaps the Lead Research Scientists should be trying to find out if their proposed project could be better served with GPU work units. Yet, I do understand your reasoning 100%.
