I read the New York times story about the World Commnunity Grid and thought it was the neatest idea. Finally, we are harnessing the power of the internet to solve real world problems. It was a no brainer for me to downlaod the small software and join. After all, given all the invasion that spy ads and viruses and worms have been unleashing on me, donating my down time to a good cause just made sense to me.
I want to hear the stories of why you and others joined the WCG too. I think these stories can be used to achieve our objective of creating the network of computing power that will accelerate solutions for us all. |

I think it is great idea to put all this unused power we have at our disposal to good use. This can only be successful if project as a whole strives to keep in mind that members will bolt even at the slightest chance of 'being exploited'.
I have joined to understand and contribute to this phenomenal initiative |

I think the World Community Grid should make a public statement that it's processing resources will not be used for military applications. |

Looks like the NYT article was responsible for almost a doubling of total CPU time from 11/15 to 11/16.

This is something that tears at my mind every time I watch the client run...
"What is it really processing and how do I know for sure that is what it is in fact processing?" Could you imagine a scenario where the military might put in a draft order not for soldiers but for the CPU in your computer? If anyone here has any writing skills that sure would be a good idea for a book or movie... |

I read about this today, in our local newspaper the Times of India. I think it is great idea to put all the unused power we have at our disposal to good use. I want to explore further as to how I as an individual can help further this project. All the best.

I saw it on CNN and I leave my computer on 24/7 since I am at college, so I figured why not help out? (I just hope I am not violating any student computer rules!!!)
No worries though. After I see how this works for a bit I will get alot of my guys on this. Good luck. |
