FYI @Tank. I use V 6 on Depspid with no problems. The BOINC client has no affect whatsoever on the WUs since all it does is the downloading and uploading and scheduling, so there is no way that the BOINC client, no matter which version it is, can have an affect on the WU itself. Only the "science application" or your hardware can do that. As for a memory leak, if that were the case it would cause problems on "any" project not just on one.

There is no guarantee of that. BOINC stays in constant communication with the science application. There are many things that can and often do go wrong.
This is why you should only use the testing releases if you are helping BOINC by alpha testing, and submitting test reports back to BOINC - or if you are particularly masochistic. BOINC 6 isn't finished. I can't say this strongly enough! |

Any major release has a well established numbering convention. The 1 in the 6.1 is an uneven hence alpha or pre-alpha. 6.2 will be beta or production and future 6.4.x, 6.6.x in the development path will be too. Only those you will see on the official Berkeley download page. As opposed, what you see in the directory download listing has anything in there to allow e.g. the testers to pull any version or downgrade as some had to do due to e.g. proxy tribulations. Sek - I'm sure your right about this, and it makes sense, however I can assure you that 6.1 was put on the official Berkeley download page last year.....it may have been an error and it was later removed - but it was definately there, and in an earlier post Cappy asserts thats where he got it from as he wasn't even aware that a download directory existed at that time - this I think is why there is a misunderstanding between him and Didactylos ![]() |

Adywebb, I think you may be right. However, it was removed quickly, since it wasn't intended for public beta.
That said, it still had the big warning: (MAY BE UNSTABLE - USE ONLY FOR TESTING) Claiming BOINC 6 was abandoned is just ridiculous, of course. |

Cappy,
I just checked the db are your limit is now at 16 so your quote is rising quickly (the limit doubles with each valid result). Also - the device was registered with us on October 23, 2007. Did you previously use this machine with us and at that time get lots of errors? For a new host, the limit starts out 125 results per processor per day (this will be dropped back down to 80 later this week - see the discussions about the small FightAIDS@Home workunits if you want more info). thanks, Kevin |

SETI.USA has been involved in a few things to get our selves better placings in a few projects and thats where i have been :) but im back at my favorite project from now till the end of the race maybe alittle longer all depends on what direction we take as a team. like i said i ran crunchr's 6.1 last race without any problems what so ever, i mainly like the return results in 1 minute feature :) but like i said the only thing that has changed was a cpu upgrade in this machine. ![]() |

I just checked the db are your limit is now at 16 so your quote is rising quickly (the limit doubles with each valid result). Did Cappy change something, or just turn off the machine that was sending the invalids? So far, BOINC 6 has only had some preliminary alpha builds just to test some changes to the Windows installer. speaking of which ...I d/l BOINC 5.10.30 from Berkeley. The install fails on a new machine because the "windows installer isn't supported by this processor type". ... which is an AMD64 X2 6400+ black edition with 4 Gb memory running Vista Ultimate 32 I know it needs to be in a directory separate from the user path, but the installer crapped out before it got that far. I already have c:\boinc defined for future attempts. (... out researching the problem elsewhere ... checking Berkeley BOINC forum) I d/l BOINC 5.10.28 which gave the same error... Research continues. The installer is V4.6000.0 and is correctly set in the OS to "manual". This is being done on an admin level account. Microsoft's opinion: There is no redistributable that installs Windows Installer 4.0. This version of the Windows Installer ships with Windows Vista. That's cute. I know. That's the one I'm messing with. No wonder I only see downloads of V3.0-. Hopefully they'll support their own product one of these days.I don't know whether you can run installer 3.0 at the same time or not, or whether it would overlay V 4.0. I'm not ready to do that yet.

Cappy, old work units are removed from your history after a while, so you simply have no way of knowing (now) whether you were returning invalid results. The quota restriction, however, makes it a certainty.

retsof, which installer are you using? If you are using Vista Ultimate 32 then you need the 32 bit installer despite the fact you have a 64 bit processor.
