cool Protein Folding Projects

I could not get to this website 2 days ago so did a search on the web and found others doing something similar. Anyone know what the difference's are between this protein folding project and some of the others? raised eyebrow

Quite simply, the Human Proteome Folding Project follows the Human Genome Project, which was completed [more or less] in September 2004. We are trying to compute the structure of unknown proteins corresponding to protein-coding genes identified by the Human Genome Project.

There are several distributed computer projects studying the protein-folding process.

This is a long running project trying to develop a basic understanding of protein folding computing at the quantum chemistry level.

My opinion is that this is an attempt to test computer algorithms to use in computer programs like Rosetta, the program that we use on the World Community Grid for the Human Proteome Folding Project.

This is really cancer research, but they are doing some protein folding as part of the project.

No other project is doing what we are. However, with all the genomes of different target species being researched, such as the rice genome, the malaria genome, etc., in a few years there will probably be a number of similar folding projects run on important non-human genomes.

Added: I had better point out that the Human Proteome Folding Project is being run on two grids, http://www.grid.org as well as on the World Community Grid. Otherwise it could not be completed so quickly.

Re: Protein Folding Projects

The forum about talking to HPF project scientists has jus had one of the scientists drop by with some interesting explainations.
