So my 40 minute work units are normal? Sure, Blizzie, see below: Unplanned, but logical after the explanations given above by uplinger, WCG has improved its best ever for the number of results returned on a single day: 408,875 results! This is an interesting rehearsal before the coming Bunny Race challenge. Cheers. Jean. |

Greetings all, The batch starting with 3145 are new work units from the researchers. My program that estimates how long the work units will run has split them up more than it should have. That is why you are seeing such short work units. I thought these work units were more difficult because of the number of work units built in a batch, but it looks like the script split the number of tries shorter than it should have. -Uplinger So my 40 minute work units are normal? The picture tells the story.... average daily run time halved:

We had an all time high for results yesterday and are on track to beat that today. The points and CPU times were not records. The work units are just shorter lately. Look towards the bottom of Graphs . The average hours per result has varied quite a bit over the life of WCG.
----------------------------------------We did beat the all time high for results again today. The average CPU time per result is the lowest it has been in 3 years. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 16, 2008 6:40:22 AM] |

These "popcorn" work units take just as long to download as the 12-hour work units, but deliver a lot fewer hours (1 or 2), thus the network overhead per hour of crunching has just been multiplied by a factor of 5 or 6.
12 to 24 hours is a good length for me. Of course, it would be really cool if we could have a preference setting for work unit length (i.e., lots of WU lengths available and we can choose what we want to crunch), but until then could we please keep the network overhead LOWER? |

Hi Papa3,
Uplinger set the figures wrong when he created a batch of work units, which is why they were created with such short run times. We will run through this batch quickly enough, then we will be back to work units with the normal length. Lawrence |

Whoa Nelly, set the profile to just pick up a few FA@H in between the DDDT and they complete faster at 50 minutes than the latter jobs at average 56 minutes.... pump up the volume

The estimates look about the same or only slightly longer than the DDD-T estimates.

Folks who only run FAAH without fallback project better check their devices as we momentarily ran out of supply:

Things seem to have been extremely busy. 1 DDDT & 1 FAAH job received, 2 more cores vying for attention.
