waiting to report?

i just watched a work unit end and another begin without reporting.

i looked in advanced view and saw 1 hpf2 and 1 hcc unit "ready to report" and the new unit was working away.

i am using the internet on this computer right now and when i switch to simple mode it says updating server status (which usually means internet communication)

are we now delaying reporting results to save server time? or do i need to manually send them in? if so how?

Re: waiting to report?

Ready to Report is explained in Start Here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=16783

It is a very time-consuming database update, so BOINC delays and tries to consolidate several such reports before sending them back to the Scheduler. The results are returned immediately but the reports are delayed. It confuses a lot of people. For myself, I would prefer to have the reports returned immediately but stored in a temporary work file until the database was good and ready for updating several reports at once.

Re: waiting to report?

I have just "upgraded" to BOINC from UD.

It says that I have one ready to report. From what you are saying it should send it before the report deadline?

Is there anyway you can force it to send?

Sorry, UD was much better, as you knew that it was working.

Re: waiting to report?

Actually Shinobi Gaiden was pretty much on the money with "are we now delaying reporting results to save server time?". There is a longer FAQ in the Start Here forum explaining the Ready to Report, being part 2 of the reporting. Part 1, the data files containing the Result go up ASAP, whenever the client connects to the servers.

Please don't manually force. BOINC knows when to send the RtR record up and will not miss the deadline unless the connection is never restored before the "reporting" deadline.

cheers

Re: waiting to report?

pcwr, UD was not better - it just gave you less information, so you assumed it was all fine. With UD, you never got feedback when work units failed or processing was interrupted.

BOINC, on the other hand, often provides too much information, worrying members needlessly.

For the best balance, use BOINC in the "Simple View". It will tell you what you need to know, without the distracting information.

Re: waiting to report?

OK, now the finished report has gone. I have no messages saying that the report was sent. I do have one saying that it collected another task to do (which shows as waiting).

How long will the graphic of reports done take to update?

Re: waiting to report?

A sample of an RtR clearing record in the message log is like the next line.

04/02/2008 16:03:16|World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. Requesting 46 seconds of work, reporting 2 completed tasks

Your statistics update 2 times a day. Various FAQs in the Start Here forum explain the Scheduling, the Result Validation and more.

cheers
