Replacement units are not downloaded, on my machine, until a unit is within about 30 min of completion.
How do I force downloads in readiness for completion of the existing units. Currently I have 2 units running with about 2 and 3 hours to completion. That means the machine will be idle for about 6 hours as I do not remain connected to the net overnight. |

Use the work buffer setting in your device profile.

Thanks for the info.
I do not see anything about buffer settings in device profile. Where do I find this, or under what name/tag? |

changed cache last night to 2 days work required, and only got one wu and now nothing in reserve.
Stats have been updated in the interim. |

Hi snoekie,
----------------------------------------Your computer needs to communicate to the servers for the new setting to be noticed. You can hit update on the projects tab of BOINCmgr and it will be immediate. You should then shortly see WU's being downloaded to equal 2 days cache. ![]() ![]() |

snoekie,
----------------------------------------what you get is based on recent actual throughput. This means that if your were doing say 2 FAAH jobs in 2 days (wallclock), you'd not get much more in your buffer. cheers

Hello snoekie,
It is possible to set general preferences on the web site and local preferences on each computer. The local preferences will override the general preferences. Bring up BOINC Manager and select Advanced - Preferences - Network Usage and see what you have in Additional work buffer. Lawrence |

Thanks. I have tried to change to get a reserve workload, but it would appear to no avail. I have increased the request to 4 days. Still too early for that to be actioned, but the 2 day requirement made not one jot of difference thus far, although the stats have been updated three times.
----------------------------------------I am running down to 20 min on one wu, and still only have 1 wu in reserve, with the other 5 hrs to run. When I awake tomorrow, one will have completed and the other if not completed, will be close to completion, and I have a duo DDR3 processor and DDR3 RAM, hence the requirement for adequate wus in reserve, particularly if I am out for a day or two.
