Very few work units, very specific host requirements - when there is work available, I expect it is allocated and sent in minutes. The chances of you meeting the requirements and requesting work at the right time are very small.

Hi ParoxysM!
----------------------------------------If you do need a fast enough machine to process the big AC@H WUs it is not what matters more for receiving some. First, since the returned results are really big you need a really high upload throughput between your machine and the WCG servers. Downloaded material is big too, but less than the uploaded files, and this is less critical since high download thoughputs are more common nowadays. Even if some of your machines meet these criteria they will still not be eligible for being sent AC@H work if you have set them to run with a queue of many days of workload. This is because the deadline for AC@H is five days only and results of one cycle of work are needed for preparing the input of the next cycle, therefore your machine's return time is key. Last, since there are only 820 WUs per cycle and many more members like you who wish to receive some AC@H work the servers are in the very comfortable position where they can choose the best clients based on all the above criteria. Therefore even if a machine could be good for this job it might not receive anything if there are too many other machines which are better. I am sure that you have already seen similar situations in other circumstances of life... Cheers. Jean. |

For the new year, I bought 1 more gig of RAM for my PC. I was running 512 MB with XP, and had never received any random AC@H work units, except the one I forced when the project first became available. And, even though the guidance said my RAM was sufficient, I had problems with AC@H hogging all the memory, and not playing nice with other programs.
Since I installed the additional memory, I received one random AC@H wu in January, and another one last night. And my PC works ALOT better. |

Hello TBirdTheYuri,
AfricanClimate@Home is starting out by running just a few models for a simulated year. This will allow the project scientists to check their code. Only 820 work units are available to run at one time. Each work unit simulates 2 weeks of time, so the simulated year will require 820 * 26 results. I have received very few work units myself. There are a lot of members. Once the program is verified, we will get a lot more work. Lawrence |

I've just seen one unit since the begining of that project.
----------------------------------------As there not a lot of unit sent per day, what would be kind is that members who have allready got ACH badge get read of ACH from there favorite projects to let more chance to the others to get the badge too. |
