sunfolk,
For IRC under Windows, I use IceChat. BladeD, Il faudrait que tu cuisines plus souvent, ça a l'air délicieux ! Je vais demander à Little Mermaid de faire des betteraves tous les jours. --------- You would have to cook more often, it looks delicious! I will ask Little Mermaid to make beets every day. little mermaid, Vu comment sunfolk sert ses bières, je préfère ne pas prendre de risque, et en prendre dans mon bar. Servez vous si vous en voulez. ![]() Seeing how sunfolk serves its beers, I prefer not to take a chance, and take it to my bar. Serve if you want. ![]() |

I just read the thread about the admins removing the ability to track progress of the projects and have become very disillusioned about WCG today and am seriously thinking about pulling the plug on WCG. I am so disappointed in the admins and feel that they are "taking us for granted". I gave the admins my opinion here .

I have thought about pulling the plug several times myself but then when I go to other BOINC projects most are worse than WCG. I didn't participate in the pentathlon this year because of the issues we encountered at the other projects last year. Website would fail, a slight increase in work caused the validators to backup for days, servers would fail and on and on. I guess I'm trying to say that WCG is the least "icky" of all the "icky" BOINC projects. I guess I could stop grid computing altogether but what do you do with 15 "oldish" servers? Plus I've been doing this for almost 20 years if one counts the SETI work before coming to WCG. I would probably move exclusively to TACC since it's a Texas based project but they seldom have any work.
----------------------------------------Just read your other post. As far as badges go, they lost me long ago as once one hits 100 diamond, there isn't any other badge to work towards. So I've had to find other ways to motivate myself. Points do nothing for me as they seem so arbitrary. I have never understood the how one project gives more points than another project for the same amount of CPU time on the same machine. Now I use strictly time. I just try to advance each of the remaining projects 5 years at a time until a new project comes along. About a month or six weeks ago, TACC was offering TACC branded merchandise to the top 10 participants. I thought that was a nice gesture... I hadn't made it to the top 10 then. Hope it isn't only a one-time thing. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Doneske at May 19, 2019 2:02:54 AM] |

I too mostly look at time. My motivation is passing the person ahead of me and it's extra satisfying when I pass someone that passed me.
---------------------------------------- I've had several over the years that blew by me like I was standing still then I find they got to a point and either stopped completely or lost whatever machines they were using at work or school to get them their super performance. After first getting my start with GRID.org, I switched to SETI when GRID pulled the plug in '07. I wish I had known about WCG back then, that was 72+ years of time gone.
One drop raises the sea.

BladeD, it was chicken all right
Leffe is the beer I got with my wienerschnitzel some days ago. A blond one. Excellent choice, stefada. I’m sure sunfolk will like it as well. NixChix, Doneske, and Damon I can feel your disappointment. It’s never good to feel unappreciated or taken advantage of. I cannot understand how some researchers/scientists can be too busy for feed-back to us. Also, I cannot understand how a simple wish of a 200 year badge cannot be moved to the top of someone’s to-do-list … but then again, I’m only a mermaid ![]() Chris, thank you for doing yours to cheer us up sunfolk, crunching for Base Camp is such a good idea.
