Norway celebrates May 17th, the date their Constitution was signed. For a good many years, Norway was part of Denmark, but in 1814 Norway partnered with Sweden until 1905 when Norway finally became Norway. A very young nation in many ways. In 1905 the Norwegians elected a Danish prince as their King, and to this very day, his descendants have been heads of state in the Kingdom of Norway which is only one of many reasons why Norway and Denmark are close friends. We usually help each other in emergencies as for instance several years ago when during a strike and lockout in Denmark we went out of yeast for home baking mainly due to hoarding. Norway shipped tons of yeast to be distributed in Denmark   Few understand to celebrate Freedom as the Norwegians. They arrange for numerous parades all over the country. The most touching is probably The Children’s Parade in Oslo where the children and their adult companions are dressed up in their Norwegian best and are greeted by the Royal Family at the Castle in the middle of Oslo.
