Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Little Mermaid,

Merci.

----------
Thank you.

But, it's mainly because I was lucky enough to have a good education. My parents did absolutely everything they could. We all did all the studies we wanted. My sister in Belgium, me flying lessons, etc ... The only thing was that we should not be stupid (make mistake ?), and work well in class.
I do not know many people who knew this, and as we say at home: "We must give back to Caesar, which belongs to Caesar".

And then, I'm sure, my grandfather, the peasant, played a big role too. He had not been able to study, finally, he was taught to read and write, and then he had to work on the farm. So, for Christmas and my birthday, I always had two gifts! A toy, and a book. Either an encyclopedia or a precise book (like he asked Mom if I did not have one in sight). And often, if children are reluctant to read, it is because they are forced. While there, it's a gift from grandpa, it has nothing to do.

But let's go back to aeronautics. I think you'll all understand that I love it, and that I could talk about it for hours (following the answers, I already have two things to show you). But are you interested, or am I just enjoying myself? I'm serious. Talking about aeronautics, and why a Frisbee flies, I was already told: "Make a nice pass especially". And I understand very well. I can just put beautiful pictures. The explanation is that I like to understand why and share. But when you're passionate, you can quickly get people drunk, and that's not the point.

blushing

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

I do not know many people who knew this, and as we say at home: "We must give back to Caesar, which belongs to Caesar".
Something similar: ”Give honor to whom honor is due”
But are you interested, or am I just enjoying myself?
I am interested. Not on your expert level. But I’m interested, and I hope you enjoy yourself, too.
Only I just have let myself become a little too busy. I was far behind as it was.
And off balance. The conflict you know. And I have by no means recovered from the aftermath of that blood clot. tired

I need some advice about Downstairs Grethe and Tessa.
Two walks (morning some 50 minutes fast walking), nights with Tessa and ’mother’ (some 30 minutes slow walking), shopping when she wants something ~ every second day also if I wouldn’t go for myself.
I let myself be dragged into it out of compassion and made it habitual myself. I don't blame anyone but myself. She never made demands. But I cannot quit. Noone else I know will do it - perhaps because they know I do.
It goes very poorly with me needing no fixed schedule in the first place and have a huge extra fatigue to battle.
Dogs and old people need fixed schedules.
I have to talk to her. It’s horrible. I think she’s on the road to dementia.

What would you do, stefada?
The explanation is that I like to understand why and share. But when you're passionate, you can quickly get people drunk, and that's not the point.
I’m pretty much the same.
Only, I never was polite enough to ask people if they could stand it blushing
1min28 for the update, I broken my hands
Next time: Make it 1 min 32 sec and no injuries wink biggrin

Little Mermaid,

------------
I do not know what to say about Tessa. Do you feel good about yourself?

Me, I would just ask the question: Are they friends with Indy? What to keep one or ten is the same for me.

What I want to tell you is to take no commitment, if you do not feel like holding it.
Not easy. But more honest.

Premier tour du monde en ballon ? / First balloon ride around the world?

Do you know Bertrand Piccard (a Swiss)? In March 1999, he made the first round balloon in 19 days.

The shape is typical of balloons that go to very high altitude. (55m high)

----------
We do not see it like that, but it is Rozière type. That is to say that inside the balloon, there is a 'pocket' of Helium to optimize the performances (The hydrogen having shown its limits, cf the Hindenburg)

----------
To fly so high, you must of course be in a capsule that is pressurized, and all that goes well.

-----------
And we laugh a little, that science does not prevent? Who invented this kind of capsule? Auguste Piccard, Bertrand's grandfather, who is the first to have been in the stratosphere.

On fini avec le parcours ?

We finished with the course?

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

stefada, last night on Downstairs Grethe’s and my evening walk with Tessa, I told her, I was unable to assist her on a schedule.
No problem. Her own daughter suffers from fibromyalgia.
Upstairs Yvonne had decided to pitch in with driving, shopping and more – she’s a former
rescue company driver of 30+ years specializing in ambulant patient tranportation.
So now I’m freelancing according to the demands of my body and soul and not to a schedule.
Downstairs Grethe has been added to our SMS routine ’Good Morning. Are you alive?
She didn’t respond. I called her. She doesn’t know how to text. I taught her. We’ll repeat it until she (and I) can.
Her phone should be an easy one. It’s not. I shopped cheese for her which she all of a sudden craved.
We went for an evening walk, Tessa included. It will work.
I have not had the time to study your most recent aeronautic post yet.
Good Afternoon Base Campers!
Shop talk
I heard no objections to our top40.nl 2.0 trek lasting for the entire month of July with peak dates on
July 4 and July 14. We shall have a rotating door installed.

Personal chit-chat
This has been my first day off since I began walking Tessa and so on. And a very good one it has been.
No times to be kept. Doing things in the order that was good for my health.
At the library I picked up ’Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts’ for Downstairs Grethe. It dealt with dogs.
I got myself a new mouse. Both my old mouses/mice
– what would be correct when we talk this species of mouse?
– went on disability allowance. Why do I get attached to them instead of throwing them out?
I visited a Bicycle and Moped Museum – the biggest in Scandinavia run by volunteer enthusiasts –
in a small town where we lived through one winter in 1971-72.
Opposite the museum was an ’Ishus’ an informal ice cream parlor.
You wouldn’t believe the waffle ice cream I got myself love struck
Finally I walked a Heart Trail around the lake at that small town.
And the weather – apart from a few days – was still absolutely wonderful
– if you are not a crop growing farmer or a gardener whether professional or amateur.
I have added some pictures to my ’June Days’ album – starting with #16.
And now I was just contacted on Facebook by a school mate who tries to track our class of 1962 down
56 years ago!!! Mamma mia.
This could be us shock

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Afternoon Base Campers!
Shop talk
It’s quiet here, isn’t it?
I posted in adriverhoef’s team thread and asked if he would feel like entering his team into some challenges
when we come trekking
- it’s as if I cannot get it spicy enough
He didn't answer - it doesn't matter. I'm used to that. I'll ask again tongue

Personal chit-chat
It works with Downstairs Grethe and Tessa.
Text lesson, long walk with Tessa, short walk with both, at times that I can tolerate,
MobilePay – two phones signaling simultanously – gapingly amazing and we giggle each time …
Upstairs Yvonne stepped in with phone# for a hairdresser who pays home visits,
and on Thursday the two of them will go specialty shopping.
Upstairs Yvonne is the Macy’s type cool

That old school mate who contacted me yesterday has a lot of information about our class of 1962.
Three of us died. One girl killed her mother!
I couldn’t find myself on the photo – thought I had been absent in some sort of protest,
but I’m there all right.
He pointed me out blushing
He remembers me as 'ikke mundlam' ~ ’not mouth lame’ meaning a chatter box … sad
Well, I took the trip down memory lane and scanned some old photos for him.
I had one very daring one from a fishing trip where he was present as well.
I caught a fish. A cod fish. Me at 16
- I only changed marginally devilish

What is that?
It's a peak
- it's a spike
- it's a spiky peak on my personal run time graph
found this morning, BladeD
- along with a ruby TB badge batting eyelashes
One would think it's Christmas laughing
and this 'you'
is 'youse'/'y'all'
- the plural of second person singular 'you' tongue

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

It seems my Base Camped graph link is broken devilish I don't blame it biggrin here we go cool

Good Morning Base Campers!
Good Morning Base Campers!
Shop talk
yodap, a fan of owls, has been invited to the Netherlands along with the EVGA-boys who seem to suffer from inertia sad
Sometime today I hope to extend a general invitation to all of the WCG ... blushing
This is premature.
We have a new team on the block.
We have nothing planned for October ... thinking
flodisar has been appointed captain of The International Team - and we have nothing planned for November smile

Private chit-chat
I fell asleep before the WCG server update was finished - therefore no post yesterday blushing

flodisar - this is for you - second half of my reply smile
Oh, I'm sorry I missed out on it being jokes :( I'm not very good at jokes historically I think. As a child when my sister joked around with me a lot I finally said - "no more jokes, I don't do jokes!"
Now as I am much older I of course do and like jokes, I'm just not very good at spotting things like that with the keyboards and the overclocking pars. I was just happy to get a chance to speak about computer hardware :)
He-he! Hardware is a nice conversation topic - for men more than women, I think biggrin That could be a streak of aspergers/autism, but I would not worry about it if I were you. As with a lot of other things in life, you need to do them/practice them. You wouldn’t be able to do your job if you hadn’t educated yourself for it, and I suppose you get brush-up courses now and then. The more you do a thing, the more experience you get. I’m with Team XtremeSystems currently. They have a great thread at their Forum for jokes – of all kinds blushing
The doctor prescribes one a day for starters wink
Do you joke and/or laugh with your parents?

Your advice of cooling my crunching phone’s back or front is excellent. Thank you.

Yes, I understand that your father’s condition is ’biting it’s own tail’.
It’s difficult to lose weight by cutting down on your daily intake only.
Some exercise would be a plus, which is hard when you are in pain even before moving.
And if he don’t lose weight, the surgeon is not too willing to perform a procedure that might or might not alleviate the pain ....
It must look hopeless to your father.
Does he stick to a low calorie diet in order not to make the problem worse?
In practice, people's bodies are found when neighbours feel a smell of rotten flesh from next-door
Oh, we also have people who die very alone at home (where they are found when the stench bother others) or in hospitals. Don't they all over the world?
Our Senior Citizens’ Association have a lot of volunteers with different specialties.
One is to sit at the bedside of a dying person, waking and holding a hand.
.. I've read some things about the Danish hospitals, how the hospital food is prepared by chefs and there is a menu to choose from and that the food is really good. Is it really true what I've read?
Yes and no. There have been experiments with gourmet food at hospitals, and those programs get a lot of publicity.
And then it seems to pass .... sad
But they try, and they are aware that – especially for people with small appetites – the food should be appetizing and varied.
Well, the two hospitals I stayed at in January had OK food, but I have tasted better and eaten healthier …
I was not at the gourmet ones whereever they may be.
The newest hospital "Nya Karolinska sjukhuset" deosn't even have a kitchen. Instead they serve some frozen meals from some company and they simply heat it all in a microwave of sorts.
Well, I wouldn’t mind that, except for the hot salad! Flight meals come that way,
and contrary to how most people talk about airplane food, I have always been served delicious meals.
The flight food is appetizingly arranged, decorated and presented.
They only heat the tray with the main course and leave the salad out of the microwave wink
With the high cost of labor, I think it’s necessary to think in new ways, and I’m sure many catering companies
would like to get contracts for hospital food, and they would be qualified, too.
I would think it would be easy for them to custom make meals, just as you can order along with your flight ticket.
Kosher, vegetarian, gluten free, pork free – what have you … plus a selection of ’normal’ Swedish dishes.
The patients could order the day before …
Seen from a hygiene point of view it may be more safe to use catering firms.
When I was hospitalized a couple of rooms were reserved for quarantine of patients with the highly contaminable norovirus,
and there were all kinds of restrictions as to the self serve of food and drinks.
The waiting times in the ER as you mention are often a problem in Denmark, too.
There are too many things going wrong and when things go wrong in this business, it can have fatal consequenses
as opposed to say office work.
When it comes to health close to nothing should go wrong. But we shall not forget that the media never mentions what goes right.
… healthcare systems of all kinds are failing in a dramatical fashion over here :(
I would think so. I heard the Kurdish-Swedish economist, Tino Sanandaji saying in the radio
that Sweden’s cost of being a ’Humanitarian Superpower’ equals the entire health care budget.
I also read some of his book ’Massutmaning’.
On the topic of being organized. I'm sure things could become more organized, but I will only fail if I try. Because I can't make plans in my life. They always fail. Why is this? My brain basically can't let go of unfinished things,
You are very observant as to how you function. I cannot see anything wrong with it,
but if you feel it is a stumble block for you, it is.
As to organization, I think of for instance making a plan for meals for a week at a time
and shop for all needed to cook it in one go and plan such that one cooking could cover two or three days of meals
with different side dishes. It could save some time and you have a plan to stick to.
Most household chores can be organized this way and save you some time. Time for unplanned activities that you like, and with which you can relax a bit.
But I see your brain has a life of its own to a certain degree. Mine does, too. It multitasks too much.
Thank you for letting me continue to be open here and ventilate some things that need to. Most problems have solutions and I am aware that I am very afraid of going outside my comfort-zone, but things don't change over-night.
You are most welcome smile
I understand that you need to feel secure and that you have issues of your own in addition to taking care of your parents.
Also, stepping out of that comfort zone will take a lot of your energy, and you might fear
that you cannot keep things the way you are comfortable with if you do.
It is a dilemma.
You know what you have and you’re comfortable with that on one hand,
on the other hand you seem to wish for something different which also may seem a little dangerous to you
and which does not fit all that well with your personality/character.
I think we are able to change some things about that personality/character we are given, but not all that much.
Which one thing would you like - really like - to change about yourself – or wish was different?

No, nothing is easy, flodisar. I wish I could help you better.
And the Maine Coon? Go for it. They are wonderful creatures
- I never had one, just ’normal’ cats, but Maine Coon looks wonderful, and to me it seems a good choice.
Your sister can take care of the Maine Coon if you go to Denmark and let me show you Tivoli Gardens, eh?
Earnestly: Spend a bit of your sparse time off from obligations to look at a tourism site for Copenhagen/Elsinore (København/Helsingør)
and pick out a few places you would like to see.
The Zoo? The Casemates next to it? The Botanical Garden which probably needs water,
perhaps the Technical Museum at Elsinore? Hamlet’s castle Kronborg at the same place? and next to it the newly built
Maritime Museum in a dry dock designed by superstar architect Bjarke Ingels?
- and, of course, Tivoli Gardens.
You will want to taste the ’smørrebrød – smörgåsar’. Perhaps even a Danish movie? biggrin
That is not too much to ask, flodisar, that is not being selfish, you can test if it appeals to you, and most importantly:
it’s doable, it can be done over a long weekend, and will probably recharge you.
