I was on Langeland for the first day of this trek so joined a day late, I had intended to make amends by crunching Kraland for another day before going home. I may detour to the Falkland Islands for a personal trek first though.

Yes, tanner2, you snuck off
![]() ![]() – I have had a comradely conversation with our nightguard but I’m glad you came back and gave us some more of your time and crunching – as I see it Australia gained on us, so what you, Eric_Kaiser and Doneske did in the last minute has probably secured this finish. I wish you a safe and enjoyable trip to Deadwood, tanner2 - it rained when I visited Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane at the Mount Moriah Cemetery ![]() – I’m not jealous ![]() ![]() - do send postcards if you have the chance, please ![]() Good Afternoon Base Campers! I reckon we’ll not have more Kraland Challenge IX updates. It has been exciting and fun, and satisfying no end … Thank you to every Base Camper who worked for this historic result – historic for Base Camp as well as for Kraland. Your shiny and well deserved badges will be dealt ASAP in the Base Camp Hall of Fame ![]() to this dream crew: Acpartsman BladeD davewhite5xq7 Doneske Eric_Kaiser Fossaw little mermaid NAP2614 spiritofDJ tanner2 TLD Urden yodap@BC Besides we have honorary badges for Guitarman sujo1 Any of you may of course stay on with Team Kraland for as long as you wish. I hope to see you all again for Base Camp's next trek whatever it may be - what would you like? Selfcentrered chit-chat You cannot believe the weather we keep having, so I went on one of the few walks I have not done this year so far. So much green … so little mobile data coverage … ![]() I lost my way – I regularly do even as I have walked there dozens of times – so I had to buy time from Upstairs Yvonne for our afternoon art-lunch-concert trip … so much to see, eat and listen to … so little mobile data coverage Life will be a little flat after this … What now? Personally, I’ll relax a bit in Aveyron … then I’ll take up some hoboing How about you? What are your plans? |

V and I met up with a school friend of V's and went to Hundestæd, a great little place on Roskilde fjord. Full of artists places, galleries, restaurants, some requiring advanced booking, bars etc. There is a dinky little car ferry going across Roskilde fjord which we did not do this time but have in the past. I recall the friend we were travelling with being shocked at its small size and somewhat nervous. The same thing was running the gaff this year as well, so it obviously works. Great weather today, a damn fine day out.

It sounds very nice, and I agree: Great weather today. You cannot get it any better, and your day sounds very pleasant
![]() I know the Hundested-Rørvig ferry but never traveled with it. There are similar ones in many places. One I did ride is the Hals-Egense at the mouth of Limfjorden. What I don't know is the word you use: gaff and Wiktionary - I'm afraid gives no real help .... But the sun has been above the yardarm for so long that it's setting below again. Time for G&T with a good conscience ![]() ![]() |

That thing in the picture is very like the ferry from Hundestæd to Rørvig. "gaff" is, I suppose, a slang term referring to an event or situation. Gigs are often held at gaffs. I, err, hope that helps...

Gigs are often held at gaffs. I, err, hope that helps... It doesn't, I'm sorry to say. I know gigs as a performance of an orchestra. I visited Guitarman in Poole, Dorset, and went to two gigs of his. How does the 'gaff' fit in here? 'Backbeat ' at a gig in New Milton September 2011. Guitarman is to the right with his new white cowboy hat that he brought home from a whirlwind sofa tour of the USA from which he had just returned. |

The place you saw Guitarman was a gaff. Ask him for details... It is kind of musicians slang.

It was a 'social club'.
I will ask Guitarman. Unfortunately, he had a stroke a couple of weeks ago. I think he may be able to answer anyway. But so far I assume it must be the place where a gig takes place - location, building, structure - perhaps even a bandstand? Or rather the event: A get-together with music and dance and a sweepstake. I have another problem. I asked this question but got only one answer which does not really address what I asked. Could you help, please? |
