Base Campers, howdy !!! I can give an explanation about Cahuamos (please bear with me, it might take a while). First of all, thanks for the extra run time, that's great !!! Back to the subject at hand... Cahuamos. I belong to a plastic model group, SMJ (Sociedad de Modelistas Jaliciences) and like any group, we have a mascot, which is the Caguamo turtle (Caretta caretta). But the reason we picked the turtle is because we are all nicely rounded at the waist (not much exercise done when building models), so we say we have an inverted turtle shell (our bellies). And to be original, the name of the turtle was misspelled on purpose to Cahuamos. When I invited my group to participate with the WCG, only 2 members were interested and started but soon lost interest and I'm the sole survivor and only active member of the Cahuamos Team. So there you have it, I can now take questions
----------------------------------------![]() Thanks ! CJSL Keep Calm ad Crunch !!! |

Thank you very much, csjlman, so nice to meet you
![]() It is a beautiful explanation that gives the entire story. Maybe I was a little puzzled by the 'inverted' turtles. I see turtle shells as rounded as they are - but if they were inverted, they would be the 'after' model ![]() - but when looking at Google/inverted turtle/pictures ![]() I see what you mean. ![]() - my back is my belly, my belly should be flat! I think the Badge Review Committee is able to finish its work now with this detailed information, and I look forward to having some input and directions. I liked it so much - and I cannot find supplementary questions in this regard. However, I would like to know what the models are. And if you could give us some tips as to what to see in Mexico that tourists - we are tourists of a certain kind; the grilled locust easting sort ![]() that is a little off the beaten path and beyond the 'must-sees' we would appreciate that, too. ![]() |

Good Morning Base Campers!
No new Base Campers joined, none left. But so far eight Base Campers have earned the badge a suggestion is at the Badge Review Committee at the moment – which with the brilliant information our host captain gave us now with justification proudly can depict a turtle. ![]() Look, I’m completely flat. How long ago is it you climbed the stairs from the basement to the 14th floor which is a total of 15 floors as Danish floors go? And they are HIGH floors. I didn’t count, but at least 22 steps between them. That was my 15th heart fitness session - one more to go. They have made me stronger, and they have made me feel increasingly like one big sore, throbbing boil. This kind of exercise doesn't agree with fibromyalgia. I knew beforehand, but I'm out of Viking genealogy. I did those stairs yesterday, and I’m NOT running around anywhere today. Which is a shame ![]() I have contracted with six keepers of striped donkeys in Tijuana. The robustest six striped donkeys in all of Tijuana. ![]() You are grown men, and we don’t want these striped donkeys to hurt their backs when you’re riding around in Mexico City. You are free to go anywhere without supervision and enjoy what you see at donkey pace. ![]() Enjoy fruits and veggies with your eyes – peel them and scorch them if you also want to eat them ![]() listen to the music ![]() find colorful souvenirs to bring home ![]() and if you insist on keeping the cultured flame burning, a visit to Museo Soumaya will be worth your while - if not inside, then outside; this addition is designed by Fernando Romero and the museum is owned by Carlos Slim probably the richest man in Mexico. Have an enjoyable day – and would you, please, hand me the Room Service Menu, check that there is a reasonable supply of gin&tonic in the minibar and wheel next to me? Thank you ![]() |

Good Morning Base Campers!
Tomorrow will be our peak day. I wonder if any new Base Campers will come? We shall not forget that we do this trekking partly to try to acquire new members for our host team. Take Cahuamos and captain cjslman – all alone is he cruching with no company. There’s gotta be somebody who wants to crunch next to this friendly, slightly vertical-turtle bellied man. Mexico is roughly 3,200 km/2,000 miles long and from north to south runs a wide chain of mountains. The Sierra Madre. This name will forever remind me of a movie with moral issues larger than life. We could go north/south in these mountains, but I suggest we just do the desert nature part. The thing is, my school movie club showed ’The Living Desert’ when I was 10 or so. Disney made it in 1953 and it took a while to cross the Pond in those days. ![]() That film made an enormous imprint in the imagination part of the brain of a 10-year-old girl. I never thought I would get to visit a desert – like Alhambra it was a distant dream. Today we have desert Disney style on our program. We shall begin our trip at the border with Arizona. The Sonora Desert. On horseback. No more donkeys. And yes, I understand it hurts after yesterday. I brought painkillers. ![]() For those of us coming from temperate climates the spectacle is amazing. The desert vegetation has a beauty of it’s own and makes us think about how genially all living creatures adapt to make the best of what is dealt them. Look at the saguaro flowers – no one around to admire them but the insects that take care of the pollination. I vividly remember this cat from the film. Her ears are not lynx-like, but I know her tail is that short one. ![]() I'm not sure we have sand fields in the Sonora Desert, but the pattern made by a snake in the hot sand and in a little girl’s brain by Disney has to be present - and the scorpions ![]() - and the aplomado falcon ![]() The dahlia is Mexico’s national flower. I would have liked us to see them as wildflowers, but they are hard to find. Most dahlias available are the cultured part. This may be a middle road: Our lunch will be something with which I’m not quite familiar. I know the names: Taco, tortilla, enchillada … and I believe that's what's in our picnic basket. ![]() Spreading the picnic blanket next to a prairie dog colony is so much nicer than atop an ant heap. ![]() |

Quiéséra cerbessa por favor ? This must be between you, Louloup, and csjlman, stefada ![]() I'm a bit of a turtle myself. LOL Oh, are you, acpartsman ![]() ![]() ![]() Good Afternoon Base Campers! It’s our peak day. It would be nice, if other crunchers decided to join us here at team Cahuamos today. Even nicer would it be if one or more crunchers out there decided to become a permanent member of the team. Today I have chosen to send us out on the water. The water that runs at the bottom of el Cañón del Sumidero. It will be like seeing the Black Canyon of the Gunnison River in Colorado from beneath. The canyon itself was carved by the Grijalva River much the same way the Colorado River carved Grand Canyon. The area around the canyon has been made into a National Park. Now, let's do some sailing ![]() We shall set out on our boat trip starting from the lake created by the Chicoasén Dam and work our way upstream in a relaxing and unhurried pace. Sipping and nibbling at whatever we fancy is all we have to do while we look as the walls of this canyon sliding past – up to 1,000 m/3,300 ft of verticality. There is so much to learn and so much to see that I better let you study for yourselves. On our way back we shall use another means of transportation. We'll go white water rafting. Don't ask how the water can be so calm upstream and so furious downstream. Just enjoy it, please ![]() ![]() As opposed to when we drive in our Maybach in the Rocky Mountains and I want to sit in the middle, I now am perfectly willing to throw dice for a seat in the front ![]() |

---------- In fact, if we take the spelling mistakes out, that I have never practice Spanish, except the three weeks I spent in Chile, it means: "I would like a beer please" . I'm really not very good with foreign languages, but there are priorities, such as knowing how to order a beer. Even in German I get there! Which explains why I feel like I'm part of the turtle club ... ![]() |

I agree, stefada, those words are an important part of a traveller's vocabulary
– except for in Russia where you might contemplate delearning ’два пива пожалуйста’ ![]() We would be happy to have you in our Base Camp turtle club. Please come - and bring your computer ![]() ![]() Urden will explain how it's done. You can go back home to Kraland tomorrow - and you will have a turtle badge ![]() Good Morning Base Campers! Nobody thought we deserved an extra lift yesterday. Never mind. I have ordered eight badges. Of course, I can get more if somebody joins within the next 20 hours or so. For instance stefada Acapulco – a name of the Alhambra class which has a certain ring to it. It whips up dreams. Dreams of what? I don’t know. Let’s go and see. ![]() A crescent bay at the Pacific lined by a beach, lined with white hotels. Well, some of them are Miami Beach pastel-colored. From a tall cliff divers jump into a rather small pool 40 m/130 ft down ![]() ![]() US students liked/likes to go here for spring break. Is it still a popular destination because of liberal views on drinking age? ![]() It could look that way. Let’s have an orange juice - straight - and head east. ![]() I don’t know about you, but now I prefer a Mexican village now. Any Mexican village. The colors, the fragrances, the donkeys, the Mexican men who seem ever to buy their clothes one size too small, ![]() the music they play, the dance, the passion, the women’s beautiful dresses ![]() - an explosion in color ![]() not to mention the food ![]() which equals the colorfulness of the clothes ![]() - or the Mexican national soccer team. I have lost track of how they are doing today, but the used to be very good. ![]() Tomorrow is our last day in Mexico. Stay tuned for our train ride through Copper Canyon - you thought I forgot, acpartsman? ![]() ![]() Oh, I almost forgot: We have a badge, and all of a sudden that turtle looks a little pale: ![]() I have not received the final approval from the Chairman of the Badge Committee, but since it is his own suggestion and I only chose the litterary input, I take it the eight ones I ordered are in order. |
