I would imagine there are still traces from Louloup’s unlucky ’puppyhood’. We are all marked by what life deals to us – dogs are, too. It seems to me you are each others’ doctors.
That’s OK not to have been able to sign up for another period as a volunteer firefighter. You did five years at a very young age – perhaps too young for seeing what you did with the impressionable emotional personality you have. But we never know what we are able to until we try – and for some of us our fingers ’get burnt’ earlier – or for other reasons – than for some others of us. Aeronautics and hydraulics … I’m sure neither of you can wait to swim in that river ... ![]() |

Doneske, it's not often we get these pictures of the work we do on a fairly individual basis.
That column is done by you and tanner2 ![]() - you will need a looking glass to spot yodap and little mermaid ... ![]() Results returned - it could be any of the three graphs. I'm glad I took the picture of yodap&littlemermaid yesterday ![]() |

Thank you
![]() I think WCG has an update 'shortly' ![]() That will most certainly be visible tomorrow, acpartsman - like the morning dew on a hot Mexican desert day, most previous columns will evaporate - as if they were not already ![]() |

Yep, you’re on the list after the 12:00 utc update acpartsman
Good Morning Base Campers! So far we are five ![]() Some of us checked in at Hotel Historico Central some – the hard core campers – found a spot in Alameda Central, which is the oldest public park in all of the Americas, founded in 1592. It’s daunting that people have had this foresight for future thriving. Think of Central Park, NYC, Hyde Park, London, the King’s Garden in my Copenhagen - you name it. Trees do something for a city and its people. ![]() I hope those of you choosing to put up your tents will be able to find a suitable piece of lawn among all the marble hewn into more or less bombastic symbols of patriotism or decorative fountains, the park furniture – bandstands, playgrounds, and benches – that fills up a real park. If not, come over to our hotel with its proud and romantic ’Spanish’ look: Tall windows with French balconies with wrought-iron fronts uplighted at night, giving it a very fashionable look. ![]() ![]() A few facts: We have a city of at least 23 million people and another 100 million outside of Mexico City to tour. The vast majority of the Mexicans speak Spanish. Let’s hope some speak English as well. Sizewise Mexico ranks as #15 between Saudi-Arabia and Indonesia and is about 4½ times Virginia, 4 times New York State, a little less than 3 times Texas and 2½ times Minnesota. It's big. Let’s start: It’s Sunday. Easter Sunday. More that 80% of the Mexicans are Roman Catholics, so we’ll start the day with a mass regardless of what we believe in or not, just to take in the church inside, the people in their Sunday best – not least the spit polished children – and the solemnity of the ceremony. ![]() So, we’ll walk to the Plaza de la Constitution - Zokalo – the Central Square and squeeze into the huge Metropolitan Cathedral After mass, we’ll go up on the roof an take in the view and cross over to the National Palace We’ll enjoy this huge structure with a fine courtyard and go inside and see Diego Rivera’s murals. He was the twice husband of Frida Kahlo whose museum I announced a few days ago that we must see. Unconditionally. The house was her home. All the while – and we walk; in our dreams we can walk forever we look down, up, right, left, and turn around now and then to look at what we passed from the opposite angle, as we cross through the Historic District. We shall of course take time out to enjoy refreshments and meals. I’m no expert on Mexican cuisine. Chili con carne is a staple. I cannot forget the empanadas; I'm sure they make some here. I’m sure we shall not starve – nor die from thirst. Bottled water, bottled Coca-Cola, bottled beer, bottled everything ![]() |

Good Morning Base Campers!
Six of us acpartsman Doneske little mermaid tanner2 TLD yodap are in Mexico, and we haven’t seen the faintest glimpse of our host captain yet. Are manners eroding? Perhaps it's our manners - throwing ourselves upon innocent teams ![]() ![]() Now we have a feel of the big city – and we may very well return but for now we need something quite different. Being Base Campers allows us the freedom to travel independent of time, distances, and means of transportation, so that’s what we’ll do. We’ll set up a satellite Base Camp at the base of El Pico de Orizaba, Mexico’s highest peak at 5,636 m/18,491 feet – considerably higher than Mt. Whitney at 4,421 m/14,505 feet. Nevertheless, El Pico de Orizaba is a far easier climb because of the cone shape of a stratovolcano. The scenery is smashing, and the other name, the Mexicans have given it Citlaltépetl supports the dreams it evokes in us. Star Mountain ![]() Forget about all the expensive, complicated gear, ropes, razor blades instead rubber soles and what have you. Put on your comfortable warm winter clothing and your best walking boots. I brought walking poles for all of us – and sunscreen! ![]() If you haven’t joined our Cahuamos trek yet, too bad. You just missed one of life’s great adventures. You can still join, though. There may be more to come. And you’ll get your reward: 1 WU = 1 badge yet to be constructed. Address: Cahuamos oh, and we'll have a picnic when we return to our Base Camp satellite Base Camp ![]() |

Good morning everyone.
----------------------------------------Great pics and info LM, you've been busy as usual. David just joined us on our trek. Think I'll check the stats page tomorrow to see how much we've blown up their stats. :-) Have a great day, I'm off to Lowe's. Gotta get the laundry room ready for a new washer and dryer.

Hi Dave!
![]() Welcome, and thank you for joining this Base Camp crew trekking in Mexico. Do you speak Spanish, Dave? Please do as Dave did - KLiK this link Cahuamos and you'll get to see Mexico the Base Camp way while chanelling your points toward captain cjslman's team. acpartsman, it would be fine if you have the time and insight to take a look at the development of Cahuamos. We ought to make a note of the standing of a host team at the start of a trek so we can see what happens. We could do that when we go to Maine. In Base Camp's earlier lives we had some pretty meticulous bookkeeping of just about anything. Graphs and pies .... lots of daily reporting ![]() Talking about graphs: This is the Results graph. The other two look the same ![]() I think a before-and-after would be a good thing, but any suggestion is welcome. |
