I am currently unable to connect to the World Community Grid server using BOINC, and receive the following errors:
2007-10-30 23:19:15 [World Community Grid] Sending scheduler request: Requested by user 2007-10-30 23:19:15 [World Community Grid] (not requesting new work or reporting completed tasks) 2007-10-30 23:19:16 [---] Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site 2007-10-30 23:19:17 [---] Access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down. 2007-10-30 23:19:20 [World Community Grid] Scheduler request failed: problem with the SSL CA cert (path? access rights?) 2007-10-30 23:19:20 [World Community Grid] Deferring communication for 2 min 33 sec 2007-10-30 23:19:20 [World Community Grid] Reason: scheduler request failed My other BOINC projects are running fine without problems. BOINC version: 5.10.8 i686-pc-linux-gnu BOINC manager version: 5.10.8 Does anybody have any ideas as to what is causing the problem? Thanks. |

Hello dave72,
Scheduler request failed: problem with the SSL CA cert (path? access rights?) WCG is the only project I know of that uses the Secure Socket Layer to encrypt commo. Have you been using this computer with BOINC and the WCG before? Lawrence |

We have a FAQ for this problem. Please read: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=14222
I notice you are using a beta release of BOINC. Where did you get it from? |

We have a FAQ for this problem. Please read: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=14222 Ah, I see, thanks. But unfortunately I can't download the file required to fix the problem: 403 Forbidden (FILE_VIEW privileges are required to perform this operation) ..looks like database configuration problems at BOINC Central.. Who do we need to nudge to fix it? I notice you are using a beta release of BOINC. Where did you get it from? It's the version in the repositories for Ubuntu 7.10. BOINC (presumably an older version) was working just fine before I did the OS upgrade, it should have occurred to me that the issue might have been related to upgrading to a newer version(!). Thanks for your help. |

Possible we need to set a link to a different source in the FAQ. In whatever wisdom, that what was previously publicly viewable like the check-in list has disappeared all behind a requirement to become registered.
----------------------------------------Let me dig, as i think there are other places to get it.

This isn't exactly a misconfiguration - Dr. Anderson changed the permissions recently to make Trac more user friendly.
I have mirrored the file for your convenience: http://wcg.userfriendly.org/etc/ca-bundle.crt |

Who do we need to nudge to fix it? You need to register with Trac before you can download the file. Register, login to Trac, and then click the link from the thread Didactylos posted and it should work. |

This isn't exactly a misconfiguration - Dr. Anderson changed the permissions recently to make Trac more user friendly. I'm not sure that requiring registration simply to download a file exactly counts as "more user-friendly"! I have mirrored the file for your convenience: http://wcg.userfriendly.org/etc/ca-bundle.crt Thanks, but with all due respect (excuse my security paranoia), how can I be sure that that is the same file that is on the BOINC server and not some kind of trojan? You seem helpful, but I'm afraid I have no idea who you are! Installing security certificates is venturing into new territory for me and I'm very vary of doing anything that might weaken the security of my system. |

Download the BOINC package and extract it, or register with Trac, or....
Besides, these are public certificates. It should be simple enough to verify the fingerprints. These certificates are only used by BOINC, so your risk exposure is small. |
