Restricting the number of work units

Is there a way to automatically restrict the number of work units that get actively crunched at the same time?

I've recently moved over to the BOINC client from UD where the norm was to have only one work unit running.

Even when I select one project on the WCG website the BOINC agent runs work on two units of that same project. I want the agent to work on one unit only, leaving any other units in a queue.

Under UD this computer returned about one result per day – logically I would expect the BOINC agent to 'settle into that rhythm' of one result per day regardless of how many work units it has running. However I had an error message today that one unit was 1.40 days overdue and suggesting I abort it – so presumably my settings are too low to cater for multiple jobs (unless they were much smaller)?

Re: Restricting the number of work units

Perhaps you have a dual core computer, and BOINC also takes advantage of it and runs a job in each core. Most of us WANT to run as many as possible.

HOWEVER <sulk...> you can always go to the device manager and change your profile if you want. The default is to run at most [4] multiprocessors. You can change that to [1].

There are four profiles, default, home, school and work.

(If you recently changed something, even something like how much you use your computer, it may take BOINC a few days to settle down and figure out what's going on. The number of workunits should automatically adjust. You can also change the number of days between a network connection to control how many workunits are in your queue. From experience, don't go beyond 3 days. The queue can totally empty before getting more. When working well, you get more downloads with after every 1 or few you send up.)

Re: Restricting the number of work units

BOINC will also run 2 work units simultaneously if you have a machine with Hyperthreading. The solution is the same though as pointed out above. Change the setting "On multiprocessors, at most use: 1 processors"
