Faster New Batches of Work

We have loaded in some new batches of work for Discovering Dengue Drugs - Together (DDD-T). We released 100 of them to start out with and those have an average runtime of 54 minutes with about half of the work units validated. We estimate the work units will run about an hour on the average machine. These shorter work units start with the numbering sequence 0201. Also, with these new work units the target molecule is different then the previous target for 0101 batches.

Re: Faster New Batches of Work

I'm guessing these new WUs are for the implementation of this.

3,000,000 ligands against a single protein target every 2 weeks. We can do it!

Re: Faster New Batches of Work

Maybe i should read the OP as the first 100 only having this shorter run time? The first '201 arriving in the queue has the same projected TTC as the 101's still waiting to go thru.... is the flops estimate off or is it BOINC needing a wallop?

I see the same thing as you do Sek. I have one 0201 queued and its TTC is 10:29:08.

Re: Faster New Batches of Work

Yes, the estimated flops is off. It will correct give out a better estimation of the flops in the next few days. The estimation is based off what returned results over the past 24 hours so some of the 0201 batches will need to be returned for the estimation to get better.

Re: Faster New Batches of Work

For feedback (no particular complain smile )

I have watched the progress percentage for a while and it looks very strange. I don't know if this is also related to the estimated flops problem.

The progress percentage is running from xx.000 % to about xx.090 % and then it jumps to xx+1.000 %. Between .000 and .090 the progress is by .001, apparently one step per second.

The other surprising thing is that the remaining time is practically not changing during the counting and decreases only when jumping to the next percent. At this time it decreases by much, but still not enough though. When I started to watch the run time was less than 2 hours, the progress percentage was 70 % and the remaining time was still about 2.5 hours. Strange.

I will see if it improves when Boinc's estimated total run time adjusts WU after WU.

Also a checkpoint is taken when jumping to the next percent, i.e. about every 90 seconds instead of about 15 minutes for the older WUs.

Edit: I forgot to say: running standard WCG's 5.10.22 under XP.

Re: Faster New Batches of Work

Not an issue -- simply a comment and a random one at that.

I don't know what it is but shorter work units tickle me. biggrin
