Points, results, runtime don't seem to add up.

My machine is a dual core laptop with intel centrino at 2.2ghz and it processes 2 tasks at once - on each task the time completed and time remaining add upto approximately 4 hours per task.

So I would have thought each CPU can do 24/4 = 6 tasks per day so that's 12 tasks per day so I aussume 12 results per day, it is left running 24/7 and set to run all the time - the only power saving option is to turn the monitor off when running on batteries. (it's left plugged in)

However my statistics say runtime per result is approx correct but runtime per day is only 10 hours?

Any ideas - should this machine achieve 12 tasks / day, my current average is 2.33!

Wait for your statistics to stabilise. Runtime and points are only granted when work is validated, and that takes a few days. Check the Results Status page to see what's going on: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewBoincResults.do

One other thing to add is that run time per day is calculated from the moment you created an account here on WCG. So there's always atleast a day or 2 where you have almost no results validated and therefore no run time or points awarded. It takes a while for the average to come up to the point where it reflects what you are actually doing. As Didactylos stated give it a week or 2 and the statistics should catch up.

The "average _____ per day" stats are not worth worrying about though. If you crunch with 1 machine for a year and then add a second machine, it will take years after that for those stats to catch up with you.

And the final twist: CPU efficiency. Even though the system reports 4 CPU hours a job, the *run-time* could be 4.1 or 4.2 or even higher depending on other activities and services on the system. You'd never get 24 hours average per core.
