Maximum disk usage exceeded

I'm getting this error on several projects on my Windows XP SP2 machine. I've only found it posted for Mac and Linux. Is there a patch or fix for this?

Re: Maximum disk usage exceeded

Believe it or not, the only known reason for this error is that BOINC has exceeded the disk limit.

There are a few settings that affect this, so the first thing to do is to go to the Disk tab in the advanced view, and see how much space is used, and by what.

Re: Maximum disk usage exceeded

Gave it 50 MB and it conked out at 42. Raised the device limit to 90 MB

Re: Maximum disk usage exceeded

Hello roraycr,
Normally this happens when an error causes Windows to start storing a memory dump. But in your case the disk size allowed is so small that other possibilities exist. How much free disk space do you have? Would it be possible to allow 1 GB?

Re: Maximum disk usage exceeded

The space you specify is used for all BOINC files. This includes work units, project programs, checkpoint files, various graphic files.

Also the different projects have different work unit lengths. For instance I am also running Einstein@home, and when I checked the project directory it has 68MB in various WU files stored. These files are 3MB each.

From past experience, I have found everything less that 500MB can cause various types of not enough space messages. As one poster said, 1GB is a reasonable minimum; unless you have very low space reserves on the drive that BOINC is installed to.

Re: Maximum disk usage exceeded

I have a little more than 13Gig available, but two settings I have set, both at WCG, and in my own host, is to limit HD to 80%, and physically limit it to 8Gig. I also follow the convention of allowing BOINC no more than a 50% share of ops. Also, BOINC runs exclusively on my D drive partition. The advice is correct: Grid projects run better alone, and your computer will thank you for it, and continue to run!!! cool rose good luck
