the-370-dumbest-passwords-as-compiled-by-twitter
----------------------------------------Twitter appears to have learned from its security scare earlier this year and seems to be taking password security more seriously than most Internet services.TechCrunch and a few other people noticed this list of 370 passwords that Twitter bans its members from using when they sign up for new accounts. They range from the obvious — "password," "twitter," etc. — to the obscene and bizarre. Why ban them? They're very easy for humans and brute-force hacking scripts to figure out, making it easier for people to get access to your account. On Twitter, this can be embarrassing. On other sites, this can be very costly A good, strong password is long, has multiple numbers and letters, mixes upper and lower case, and includes special characters like ! or &. Different sites use different security techniques, and might not allow some characters. But in general, the harder to remember, the better! (Which doesn't help when you forget your password, of course.) Here's the full list of banned Twitter passwords, via TechCrunch: [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 30, 2009 8:14:36 PM] |

Think I mentioned it somewhere before, having issue repartitioning the harddisk under Windows 7, but found the solution.
----------------------------------------1. Run in an elevated cmd window the powercfg -h -off to disable hibernation's unmovable hiberfil file 2. Disable/set to zero the swapfile function in the performance applet and boot 3. Run a defrag that consolidates all free space (found a trial version by O&O to do this). 4. Use the windows systems management disk partitioning and formatting function to shrink the relevant disk so that space becomes avail to other partitions. 5. Reverse 1/2 Source for more how-to W7 tips: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/819-hibernate-enable-disable.html

Find Your Mouse Pointer!
Have you ever lost your mouse pointer? I wouldn't blame you with today's content-rich websites and new-fangled programs with complex interfaces. It just happens, but thankfully Windows has a neat little feature that'll locate your mouse pointer with a simple keystroke. For Windows Xp and Vista: click Start>Control Panel>Mouse. Windows 7 users: simply click Start and in the Search Box type “Mouse Pointer”, and in the results click “Change how the mouse pointer looks” In the resulting window, make sure you're under the Pointer Options tab and put a check next to “Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key”. Now whenever you press the CTRL key a locator ring will draw your attention to wherever your pointer is at! |

XP Patch Warning
Some Windows XP users have reported experiencing the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) and/or endless reboots after installing a patch Microsoft released last Tuesday which aimed to fix a vulnerability in MS-DOS. Now, this may not be affecting everyone, but still thought it would be good to apprise you all of the situation. Don't let this stop you from applying your patches and updates as usual. The patch in question has since been pulled, and the software giant is suggesting that malware is the cause of the problem. It appears as though certain types of malware call a specific kernel code that basically tells your system to go kaput. Actually, any program that calls the same specific kernel code can cause this to happen. Microsoft released this quote I say that if your system is caught in an endless reboot loop or you're getting BSODs, then hang in there; Microsoft is working on a fix. If you haven't experienced either symptom, don't worry just yet. |

MSI Afterburner is probably the most useful configuration tool for NVidia Geforce GPU owners. With Afterburner, you're able to setup your Geforce's clocks, fan speeds and to monitor your setting effects in real-time.

Tag Along Software
Never heard of it, have you? That's because I'm making a name for it right now. If anyone out there has tried to download a program like Adobe Acrobat or Flash Player, you may have noticed there's now a pre-selected option to also install additional program like McAfee Security Scan. You don't really need that, do you? Yeah, me either. So make sure you un-check it before you hit that download button. I venture that we'll be seeing more of this type of “tag along” software in the future, so always make sure to read carefully before agreeing to anything! Just a heads up. |
