I'd second that request - about knowing what the project is. I didn't see anything in member news posts - going back to July - and scanning thread titles going back to May. See here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/projects_showcase/ach/viewAchMain.do The beta test on Linux has gone well and we have released that into production. Once we get sufficient data back about the performance of Windows we will release Windows into production as well. We expect that this should be sometime late tomorrow. We are currently working on getting Mac ready to go as well. |

What it said - memory use. It's going to page depending on what else the memory is doing (in my case, that means lots of paging). Needless to say, peak use is during checkpointing. Average memory size hovered around 75 MB.
Oh, and the upload. That took a mere 40 minutes.... and my upload bandwidth was again nowhere near saturated (it's not throttled, either). So I'm wondering how much the WCG servers are the limiting factor in down/upload speeds? |

* An Internet connection with minimum 756 kbps speed Since the BOINC-defaults is 2 simultaneous downloads per project, the minimum would be 1500 kbit/s. For anyone running multi-project, in practice it can be even lower since default is max 8 simultaneous downloads. Overworked download-servers not keeping-up with demand and small files is other reasons for low download-speeds. ![]() "I make so many mistakes. Vester, We know that these limits will reduce the pool of available beta testers. However, there is a trade-off between limiting the number of participants and getting a backlash from folks who are upset that we sent them a workunit that takes a long time to download. We are working with BOINC to get a new option available in your preferences. It would allow you to specify your average daily data downloaded. This would allow a user to say, for example, that they want to average about 25MB of data downloaded per day on their computer. Once a feature like this is broadly available we will not need to use strict bandwidth limits. By the way - for those who have slower measured bandwidths but want work for this project anyway, you can do the following to get a workunit. 1) Stop BOINC 2) Open client_state.xml in your BOINC install directory. 3) Find the <bwdown> field and increase it to a number like 90000 4) Start BOINC You will report back to the server the higher bandwidth and be able to get work for this project. Please note that this field will get updated as you download additional data files. So how do I increase the <bwdown>? It will not let me type anything in. |

I've downloaded beta workunits of AC@h, but I found they "definitely" couldn't be crunched in time. For example,
----------------------------------------BETA_ ach1_ 1_ 44_ 12-- : No Reply : Sent Time, 09/02/2007 02:07:39 : Time Due, 09/02/2007 07:31:39 Only 5 hours or so were given to the replica, which should require more than 24 hours. What's wrong with this? thanks, suguruhirahara [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 2, 2007 1:49:23 PM] |

Yes, we've seen this before on a Beta (typo in the seconds field i think).... crunch it like you mean, uninterrupted and your copy will be back before the next copy is returned.
