Re: crying crying crying Corn and Red Potato Salad crying crying crying

Hi 7cures this isn't a boycott we have nothing to stop doing biggrin

That's a good reply James it means we are still on the radar. Let's continue to keep the World Community Grid uppermost in Mr Dean's mind each morning as he checks his email

applause

Remember all we are asking for is the screensaver lifesaver links and those in the monthly newsletter to point to http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org

It's not much to ask for

Is it?

Dave

Anyone who decides to send an e-mail needs to ensure that you are polite when asking Silas Deane to consider enhancing his pages to include references to WCG, and when pointing out the existing dead links and references to sponsors who no longer acknowledge NFCR.

We are not asking for a boycott, and I'm not even sure who would be boycotted. We are asking for assistance in influencing people who can change corporate inertia, so that more people can learn about volunteer computing, with an overall increase in the amount of research that can be performed. The sooner the numbers are crunched, the sooner the scientists can put the research to use.

Please forgive this bump blushing

It will be worth it for the day we have the NFCR backing and new Cancer Work Units are being crunched alongside the HDC (Phase2) WU's

It will happen

Re: crying crying crying Corn and Red Potato Salad crying crying crying

sorry dave, but after digging into it i'm questioning the wisdom of wasting time trying to get an american charity to help advertise a dc project when that project is funded by a corportation and doesn't (to my knowledge) contribute any funds to the scientists. doesn't this smack like asking ford to put a chevy sticker on the bumper of their cars? biggrin

don't you think a better outlet for your energy and angst would be to get ibm to put a link on their main page? afterall they pay the bills, they should tell the world about the good they're doing? shouldn't they? hint...hint.... wink

Re: crying crying crying Corn and Red Potato Salad crying crying crying

No personally I don't think I'm wasting my time

I realise it's an American Charity but as they go it's a biggy

We don't give funds but we offer an enormously powerful computing resource for nothing that's our raison d'être

As NFCR backed Dr Richards work on UD/Grid.org they are well aware of the possibilities

I'm hoping once again we can change the direction of a Supertanker - if we keep putting in our small inputs eventually we will see the bow turning.

As for IBM I don't think anyone has campaigned for as long or more vocally as yours truely to get press releases out of IBM about our phenomenal efforts being made here on the WCG

Blood and Stones unfortunately come to mind

I gave up my Community Admin Hat when I finally realised that I was banging my head against a very well made brick wall on that front

rest assured I gave it my very best shot.

bbover3 yes I'm showboating again - it's true - but all I want is for IBM and the NFCR to tell the World about this project.

Now with Malaria added to our Muscular Dystrophy, HIV/AIDS, Cancer list of specific projects the WCG CV reads better than ever

please make it known - you have the means to do so

Dave

This is why I don't think this is a lost cause

The World Community Grid is the current active face of this style of project

We can (and will) make a big difference to Cancer Research

Re: crying crying crying Corn and Red Potato Salad crying crying crying

The NFCR Mission Statement

The National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) was founded in 1973 to support cancer research and public education relating to the prevention, early diagnosis, better treatments and ultimately, a cure for cancer. NFCR promotes and facilitates collaboration among scientists to accelerate the pace of discovery from bench to bedside. To date, NFCR has provided over $240 million n support of discovery-oriented basic research focused on understanding how and why cells become cancerous and on preventing cancer. NFCR's scientists are unraveling cancer's molecular mysteries and translating these discoveries into therapies that hold great promise for curing cancer. NFCR is about research for a cure, cures for all types of cancer.

Looks like a good match to me
