Is there a way for regular crunchers to "spread the news" to the NFCR?

Hi James there is
----------------------------------------if you follow this link http://www.nfcr.org/ResearchPrograms/Screensa...ect/tabid/82/Default.aspx On that page is the email address of Silas Dean. Please could you pen a letter re the World Community Grid to Silas. I have written many times in the past and so I become just part of the background noise but if you and anyone else who feels the same way should email Silas I'm sure we could make them sit up and aware of the possibilities of 180+ years of number crunching per day Thanks for your support Dave ![]() |

letter away. I'm not very eloquent, so I hope this is what you had in mind:
----------------------------------------Dear Mr. Dean, I participated with your screen saver project at UD from 11/21/2002 until it's sudden demise on 04/26/2007, and was heartbroken that your work at UD had been discontinued. I have since moved my computers to continue research with IBM's WorldCommunityGrid and I'm looking forward to the new cancer research project scheduled to start later this year, especially since the Human Genome research I hope will someday help with my son's genetic problems has now completed. After browsing the NFCR pages which discussed your screen saver project, I noticed that the URL references on the Q&A page were either no longer active, or no longer discussed your project. http://www4.nfcr.org/ResearchPrograms/Screens...QA/tabid/254/Default.aspx As WCG is expected to start the next phase of cancer research soon, I would like to request that you would consider adding a "The Future" section to your project page that discussed WCG's continued dedication to the fight against cancer and other diseases which plague us. Thank you for your time and consideration. James xxxxxx aka: jal2 |

Bumping back to page one for others to consider sending some e-mail.
----------------------------------------The squeaky wheel gets oiled so it will be quiet, and since this should help recruit new crunchers, it's for a good cause. |

Bumping back to page one for others to consider sending some e-mail. I also sent an e-mail to Mr. Silas Deane. :Subj: Please update your Q&A Page Dear Mr. Deane, I noticed that your Q&A page ( http://www4.nfcr.org/ResearchPrograms/Screens...QA/tabid/254/Default.aspx ) still references the now defunct Grid.org (www.grid.org ). Would you please consider modifying this page to include reference to the WorldCommunityGrid (www.worldcommunitygrid.org) . WCG is gearing up to launch a new cancer research project soon involving X-Ray Crystallography. Additionaly, the Human Proteome Folding project has indirect research benefits regarding cancer. Would you also consider mentioning WCG in your newsletter? Sincerely, Jeff XXXXXXXXX [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 10, 2007 5:10:26 PM] |

And Silas will reply:
----------------------------------------Thanks james for your dedication. We are currently working with Dr. Richards to identify the best place to move our resources. I will be back in touch with you on this shortly. Thanks again. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by jal2 at Aug 10, 2007 10:03:45 PM] |

It is sad, but true about organisational behavior;
they don't understand logic, because it doesn't raise funds, make a big splash in the media, or render endorsements. Non-profits respond to one thing immediately. A lack of funds. But boycotting rarely brings about the win-win that is needed here. Who are the main corporate and Foundation donors to them? I think I will visit there web page. ![]() |
