He'll be back - honestly as a politician I think the guy is fine (I'm sure there are folk out there who could show me otherwise though)

OK the October result is just in from the Met Office 10.3 degrees is the mean temperature for October in the UK this year. The average from 1914 to today is 9.3 degrees so we are 1 whole degree above the average !!!!

Don't Panic (did you seee what I did there wink)

We are 1.4 degrees cooler than last year so if this year on year rate of cooling (from a peak of 12.2 back in 2001) we will be sub zero throughout October as soon as 2015

Al's concerts are still having an effect wink it was 3.6 degrees cooler in July than last year

We've had 16 Octobers warmer than this years since 1914 including 1921 1945 1949 1954 1968 1969 (A belter at 11.8) 1977 and 1978

That said it was 6.7 degrees in 1992

Those figures if you want to take a look

Dave:

Apparently not. Looks like he took a "real" job. biggrin Now he is an "investment baker". laughing biggrin Internet inventor, climate guru, nobel winner and now into banking & finance. WOW, you think he would get tired. wink

From AP a couple of hours ago:

"SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — To anyone still holding out hope that Al Gore will run for president, it appears he has other interests.
The former vice president said Monday he's joining a Silicon Valley venture capital firm to guide investments that help combat global warming.

Gore, who won the Nobel Peace Prize last month for his work on climate change, joins Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers as it and dozens of other venture firms expand into so-called "clean-tech" investments worldwide. Gore is already a senior adviser to Google and a member of the board at Apple.

The star of the Academy Award-winning global warming documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth," is expected to be a high-profile, active partner at Kleiner Perkins. He would not disclose his salary but said he'll donate it to Alliance for Climate Protection, an advocacy group he co-founded that focuses on accelerating policy solutions to the climate crisis.

"It's one of the benefits of not being in the public sector anymore," he said in an interview."

Do you think Mr Gore could lend me some money so that I can buy some petrol to go to work to earn some more cash which I mostly pay to the government before I could possibly one day get my venture off the ground.

I promise to one day giving him back more money than he gave me

That's Venture Capital for you wink

here's why I need venture capital
why?
because of the fuel duty I have to pay so that the UK can be "Green"

btw I really do need venture capital as I really do have a venture or 2 or 3 I would like to get off the ground but I'm stymied by the UK's current fiscal policies hence my intense frustration at all of this.

I feel better now I've said it but how long has it been since the UK created it's last Cisco, Microsoft, Apple, Google?

exactly

Right I had better get ready for another glorious day in the Rat race

Make it a great day

Dave

Nope, but then if you would just make a small contribution to his tax-free organization ... (you could fund it by not going to work tomorrow and saving that gas (petrol)) ... well ... then ... just maybe he would help get your VC off the ground. wink

Dataman you've got me started again laughing

Re: laughingCan You Save Al Gore?laughingNEW YOUTUBE DEBATES laughing

aaarrrgggghhhhhh

please make it stop

You get in after a "thrilling" day at work and you think I'll just check my email

and there it is... an email from your most favourite company ever, Sky, with their exemplary customer service which is truly second to none

(This irony here is very subtle, for those not familiar with their 08702404040 number which sadly I know off the top of my head biggrin)

It says

Lights, Climate, Action!

Do you think you could inspire action on climate change?

If so, Sky is looking for short films that encourage people to do just that.

If you've got a video camera or mobile phone and a great idea you could have your short film (up to 60 seconds) shown on Sky.

If you can inspire action, we think you deserve a wider audience. That's why we are looking for new and inspiring ideas on climate-change action.

Launched as part of Sky's 'The Bigger Picture', Green Shoots is a nationwide campaign with the WWF and the Energy Savings Trust as partners, to inspire your friends, your neighbours and everyone who watches Sky to live more climate friendly lives.

You've got until 31 December 2007 to upload your film entry on http://sky.com/greenshoots , Sky's user generated content site, for everyone else to see.

One winner will have their film shown on Sky. Get your video camera ready and make a positive impact today.

For more information visit http://sky.com/greenshoots. Entrants must be 16 years or older. Further terms apply.

I suppose on the plus side you could always bag an Oscar

60 seconds of me putting another log on the fire and declaring "Toasty, it's carbon neutral you know " should clinch it wink

aaarrrrggggghhhhhh the nightmare continues

Never an opportunity missed

http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/transport/article3160645.ece

I wonder just how many tree's they have to plant per journey

Right off to work again

Today I'm travelling 130 miles and wasting over 3 hours of useful time, not to mention the increased risk, to write a Word document on a PC not dissimilar to this one I sit in front of already.

Now where is the green sense in that?

OXFAM, and i do believe everything printed, LoL, reported that the number of weather related disasters has quadrupled since the 80's and risen from 125 then to over 500 already in this decade.... at 500 one would be inclined to think it's not just a change of weather.... LoL

On the good news, with stronger winds and the highly respected British meteorologist (not) Corbyn predicting a Superstorm in November (he likes to be paid for his predictions), some energy conservers have revitalized the ol' sail to take advantage.... unfortunately, they missed the greatest opportunity to put it to the test as the ship wont launch until December
