At long, long last we finally get someone from the WCG hierarchy to make a statement
---------------------------------------- Thank you very much for your explanation, perhaps if it had come sooner much of this would have been unnecessary Although no doubt some will disagree with your version of events, and also that it could have been handled far better, I do believe that this will unfortunately be the best we get. To that end I see no mileage in pursuing things further from a personal perspective. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 11, 2007 9:49:00 PM] |

Didactylos post from 5th
It wasn't a single post that was at issue. There were many posts involved, breaking a number of rules. Please remember, this wasn't my decision (although I support it). I haven't seen the email that was sent, although I understand it was a standard "cease and desist". Please note that these warnings were personal emails from the WCG project manager, not the automatic emails that are sent when nelsoc edits a post. carl.h will presumably have received quite a few of those, too. The first official warning carl.h got was quite a few months ago, on a separate issue. And in between these two incidents, carl.h made a grand total of four posts. I repeat: this wasn't done lightly. The course of action was decided by the project manager and all the forum administrators in consultation. But honestly - he's only banned from these forums. It's not the end of the world. I don't want to get drawn into an argument with you, so please contact the staff via the support address if you wish to disagree with the notification policy. The course of action was decided by the project manager and all the forum administrators in consultation. Makes a lie of this World Community Grid made the decision - not the Community Advisors. carl.h will presumably have received quite a few of those, too. We know this to be a lie although as stated it was only presumption. The Team Islam thread I posted quotes from the quran in as did Claychip. A rude and intolerant attitude displayed after our initial request Now we`re getting near the truth, your personal opinion is the above nothing more. The post above by Didactylos states I was banned as far as he knew, I had received no conformation of such. 35 new members all trying to defend myself from bully tactics where I was allowed no voice or even a respectful email clarifying my position. What happened at that time was outside the bounds of the rules that were in operation. The only way to get around it was to ask me to take off the software from my machines as I was outside the Software Agreement. At no time did that happen. |

Nelsoc, I counted quite a few more people who did'nt stop posting in the Islam thread and no action was taken against them. Go look again yourself and you will see.
Carl did'nt receive that email he is supposed to have got about action. If I was turned into the invisible man with no explanation, I might behave a wee bit funny too. |

This unfortunately has shades of what occurred over at Grid.org That is why I quit grid.org many years ago. When the administration gets out of touch with the concerns and feelings of concerned, involved contributors then the decline has begun. Personally, I really don't feel too warm to a project that starts to eat its' own. Why would I? ...we have seen where it ultimately leads and this place deserves better than that I'm not so sure of that, now. The science deserves better, for sure. But sometimes the forums, which are our interface with the projects, take a decided turn for the worst. It sucks to feel turned on by the project you support with your $$ and passion. As in a dog turning on its owner, and biting him.
I love to see the moderate, pacifying comments by some of the impartial volunteers around here. More examples of what is being alked about, I suppose. |

Imagine this scenario: I come over to your place(alone or with friends, it doesn't make a difference) and cause a disturbance among your other guests. After you kick me out I sneak back in and insult your family and use all sorts of foul language. Then, I knock on the door and phone your house hundreds of times and get my friends to do the same causing you undue stress and lost sleep. Would you just sit there and say, "Wow, your a mischievious one arn't you?". Would you feel that you owed me an explanation or multiple warnings? Even if I brought a REEEEALLLY expensive bottle of wine to supper the first night I doubt I would be welcomed back at any time.
----------------------------------------I own an automotive-based forum and have to ban people all the time. I get a real chuckle over the whiners who email me about getting banned and all their buddies who have to chime in for their defense. The fact of the matter is simple: you were in "my house", you did something I did not like, therefore you are out! I owe you nothing, not even a warning or an explanation. It is at my discression that I provide either or both. My house is not a democracy. Don't like it? Then don't come in! I keep playing this out in my head as a criminal case. Whl. and some friends rob a bank and Carl drives the getaway car. Unfortunately, Carl is the only one to get busted while the others go free. Now all the robbers are standing outside the jailhouse demanding his release with the defense "it wasn't his idea and he didn't act alone!" Justice for Carl has been served and I'm betting the jury is still deliberating on his accomplices cases. In the mean time, if those accomplices that went free feel that there has been an injustice, they may arrest themselves at any time by ceasing to post in the forum. Or keep demanding justice from the judge and I'm sure he'll eventually toss you in the clink to keep Carl company. WCG has responded even though they had no obligation to do so. Every single point nelsoc made would get you banned on any descent forum I know of. Now it's up to each individual to decide which side to believe. A WCG admin from IBM Corporation who devotes countless hours to a great cause, or a forum member who blatently broke the rules and consequently got his nose bloodied and ego bruised. ![]() |

I would like to know why we had to suffer thru the weekend without being able to post in certain threads That is the only decision that i disagreed with. As i observed Carl was certainly trying to cause grief in a lot of threads and i did agree with his suspension as i was one that complained about him. He just kept coming back and would not desist
