Re: HAY!

I'm normally a Guiness drinker. I find that it is deceptively smooth and delicious. I recently, however, have stumbled upon a beer that has quickly become a favorite of mine. The beer is from Holland and I believe the name is Delirium Tremens. Its sharp and refreshing.

In the words of Homer Simpson:
"To beer. The cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems."

I'm not sure how well The Beer Stores are stocked in the small towns out that way. You may want to call ahead! The city of Thunder Bay may be the best stocked place that far west.

Always in stock,

Re: HAY!

Ripcat,

Nice link.... lot's of local breweries, I like that. wink
There seems to be a movement, or to be precieze, in the beer you just drink like Miller and the beers you enjoy.... micro breweries will have a living again.

BTW does any of you ever experienced a belgium beer called Orval or a british beer called Spitfire?

Frans6nl;
It is nice that the micro breweries are making a comeback in the states. There are some mighty fine ones too! I have notice one thing in my travels. That all beer even from the Big commerical breweries is not the same even here in the states. For example there is a difference in taste from the Michelob acquired say in New Jersey vs Michelob acquired in Califiornia. They do a good job of making it all taste blandly similiar. I guess it is like Pepsi or Coke either here in the states, changes slightly from coast to coast but is almost nothing like the European counterpart.
I've not had the pleasure of sipping either one, which means I will be on the look out for them at the bigger stores as I trot around.

Beer is a perishable product, the taste will change if it isn't kept cool, if its shaken too much during transportation or if it sits on the shelf too long. Buyer beware, they don't usually put 'best before' dates on beer. I believe beer is freshest within the first 3 months and it should be stored in a cool environment.

Also, the major brewers have more than one brewery so with different locations they use different water and that will also affect the taste. I think yeast varies as well which has an effect on the taste of the beer.

Beware of the skunky beer,

cool Re: HAY!

Back in the late 1970s the big companies were building giant new breweries everywhere. I remember one engineer making endless runs using ??STRUDLE?? , some structural analysis program to design the steel structures. Later I heard that the taste of a number of popular beers changed noticeably during this period of growth and corporate war among the brewers, and some brands practically self-destructed.
