Re: System Requirements Matrix

Hey Sek, your matrix needs a side note or something pertaining to the fact that OSX PPC is not supported for the HPF2 project. wink

Re: System Requirements Matrix

Will show on next refresh, and thanks for pointing this out. Will also add a little comment v.v. this Linux PPC (the G5 observation).

ciao

Re: Bandwidth use

I was banned from running WCG at my parents' because they were worried about exceeding our ISP's use limit. At the time, I simply did not know how much bandwidth it was using.

From the above I have now calculated around 100-150MB a month, well below our limit, even though I run only HPF2 because of this problem. Could such figures be posted somewhere easier to find, and with a per time as well as per unit comparison (if you're short of bandwidth, you want a project that can do a lot of work for little data transfer, not one that simply divides its work into smaller pieces)?

Re: Bandwidth use

Observed running times on my machine (2.2GHz dual core) and calculated bandwidth usage if left running 24/7 (total of download and upload) using the unit sizes above:

dddt 1.5hr/unit, 300MB/month
fa@h 9hr/unit, 65MB/month
hcc 6.5hr/unit, 45MB/month
hpf2 16*hr/unit, 200MB/month
*This was typical, but the last pair I ran were both about 10hr; have they been made shorter recently?

So none of them (with the possible exception of ac@h, which I haven't tested) use that much compared to typical ISP limits where I live, but if bandwidth costs are a concern select hcc and fa@h.

Re: Bandwidth use

Sek, you might want to add FPU requirements to your matrix.

notes:
1. I don't have the plus number for most of the AMD chips.
2. all are 24/7 @ 100% except Dual Xeon (90%) which overheats at 100%.

My personal observation for HCC (might be partially page fault related).
Fastest (5 hours) to slowest (78 hours):
avg
hours OS machine (freq/L2 cache/FSB)
5 SuSe Athlon FX64 (2Ghz/512K/200) 3000+ w/1G ram
8 SuSe Athlon XP (1.83Ghz/512K/166) 2500+ w/512M Ram
9 W-XP Dual Xeon (3.2Ghz/?/?) w/2G Ram
10 W-XP Sempron (1.8Ghz/128K/?) w/2G Ram
14 W-2K Athlon MP (2.15Ghz/256k/?) w/1G Ram (CPUID says this is a Sempron? relabeled chip!)
15 SuSe Athlon (1.33Ghz/256k/133) w/256M DDR Ram (AMD MB)
17 W-XP P4 (1.8Ghz/?/?) w/512M Ram
18 SuSe Athlon (1.33Ghz/256k/133) w/384M SD Ram (Asus MB)
23 SuSe PIII-850E (845Mhz/256K/100) w/256M Ram
29 W-XP Duron (1.1Ghz/128/100) w/384M Ram
78 W-2K Celeron (1Ghz/128/100) w/512 Ram

shock my Celeron has been banned from the HCC project!
