Yesterday I aborted a task for Human Proteome Folding (ld079_00025) that had been running on my computer for 36 hours, but was only 10% complete. I'm leaving on vacation for 2 weeks in a few days so I knew the job wouldn't been done before I left.
----------------------------------------Now on a second computer I've found a another HPF task (ld109_00041) that has been running for 54 hours. Its been stuck at 63% for I don't know how long and hasn't checkpointed for almost 36 hours. I checked the website and found that results from other computers for both of these same tasks are much, much shorter. I have pretty good machines: one is 3GHZ and the other is 3.4GHZ. The other core is crunching WUs at the normal pace. Has something gone wrong? [edited to correct spelling] ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by NixChix at Jun 21, 2007 2:10:16 PM] |

Hello NixChix,
This is a problem with HPF2 that has been reported before. Something unknown sends it into an endless loop. The easy way to fix it is to suspend the work unit, then unsuspend it. It starts at the last check point and goes to completion. It is an unusual problem, but some computers seem to encounter it frequently. It is your decision, but for peace of mind I would change my projects to exclude HPF2 if it happened often on my computer. (I cannot remember for sure, it might have happened once on mine but I do not think so.) Lawrence |

Thanks Lawrence
----------------------------------------OK - I reset it back to the last checkpoint. It was painful to watch the the CPU time drop by 44 hours. Ouch! I'll see how quickly is goes past 63%. So far twice, but not on the same computer. Just in quick succession. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by NixChix at Jun 21, 2007 5:52:14 AM] |

Yup. Its already up to 66%. I guess I'll have to keep an eye on the computers.
----------------------------------------Thanks for the advice. ![]() |
