When the world grid community will make the project about dengue fever? I received a mail that they say :(...)We still need your help with other ongoing projects! World Community Grid continues to run the FightAIDS@Home, Genome Comparison, and Human Proteome Folding - Phase II projects. In a few months, we'll be launching new projects for cancer, dengue fever, and climate prediction. All of these important projects need your computer time.(...) |

It says "In a few months," in the snippet you posted ;>) Dengue is actually going to address the flavivirus family that covers a number of diseases:
----------------------------------------http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flavivirus The program is going to run using Autodock, the same as used for FightAIDS@Home. Edit: corrected link.... wrong language ![]()

Hi marisco2006,
It should be coming soon. The Dengue Fever project will be using the same new AutoDock version that Phase 3 of Fight AIDS at Home will be using. Lawrence |

The project is a collaboration between scientists at the University of Texas and the University of Chicago. Fiocruz are not involved in this project.
The goal of the project is to find new drug candidates. The AutoDock software tests how effective druglike molecules are against a target. The scientists are studying flavivirus NS3 protease, which they will use as a docking target. In many respects, the approach is similar to the FightAIDS@Home project, so reading more about that project may help inform you about the potential of the dengue fever project. |

Hi marisco2006,
----------------------------------------The Dengue Fever project will test antiviral drugs against flavivirus on the computer (in silico). Right now there are no drugs known to work against Dengue Fever. The only treatment is supportive care until the patient recovers or dies. Fiocruz is working up a new project that will not be ready soon. Lawrence [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 21, 2007 1:49:47 AM] |
