Support for Windows Vista?

I have a laptop now with Windows Vista(Home Basic). Over half my old software seems to be disabled or not work with this OS. Unfortunately, it doesn't want to run the World Community Grid either.

Is the WCG software designed to support the now popular Windows Vista? If not will it be?

Thanks,

Randy

Re: Support for Windows Vista?

Several Vistaites have installed the program in a separate directory instead of the default program file set up by Vista. That seems to bypass the security hassle.

That was the most common problem, but there is a lot more detail here.
There's a vista question thread in the Community FAQ.

Re: Support for Windows Vista?

I suppose I should. It's been so long since I started.

I had already gone to the FAQ to get the link...and came back with it.

Re: Support for Windows Vista?

It changes my mouse icon to a big ugly arrow with a shadow. It states it encountered an error with the grid server. Agent paused.

Problem still exists even with windows firewall turned off. I'll read the other articles on it.

Randy:

I'm running Vista and have seen very few problems. Was it a clean install or an upgrade?

Right out of the box [clean install], I had to run 14 critical updates.

Vista might not be your problem, you might be having firewall or security issues.

Re: Support for Windows Vista?

Could be. Turning off the firewall can introduce other nastiness from the net. It should only have to be trained to allow these transactions.

It changes my mouse icon to a big ugly arrow with a shadow.
I am not using vista, but there should be a choice of large or small windows icons.
