Some of the computers that I support are on a network that I have no control of. There is an administrator that has a proxy server on that network that is highly restrictive. With that in mind, here is my question:
----------------------------------------What information do I need to give to this administrator so that he can let the WCG agent get through to report results and get new problems? This guy is, shall we say, a bit on the grumpy side so I would like to get him all the info in one email. That way I have a better chance of him actually doing something. Thanks in advance for the help. Regards. |

Well, if you go to ‘Network Settings’ and then to ‘Connecting to the Server’ at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/join_now/connecting_to_the_server.html it says that the main thing is: “Open ports 80 and 443, outbound.” All the other difficulties are giving the Agent the right Proxy settings and then making sure the security programs accept the communications and do not interfere with the Agent.
You might want to include the URLs to several pages on the site, including the 'Agent Paused' page since it discusses the programs which will be communicating that system security will have to allow. |

OK. I think that should do it. I sent him a note this morning. We will see if he lets the WCG agent through or just rains on the parade.
----------------------------------------Thanks for your help. Regards. |
