For a day in the midst of a holiday week in the summer when so many folks are on vacation and with the Base Campers back at their regular homes, today was good. I would really like to see the number of members returning a result that day go back up some but I know we will have to wait until next week to have a chance of seeing that. We hit 24 million points for the year as a team today. Just one more million and we will be halfway to our goal. We have a decent chance at making our goal by end of the year. It is not a given but I am more optimistic about it being doable. Another visit or two or three from our Base Camp friends would certainly help too.

Nous avons une chance décente à faire notre but à la fin de l'année. Elle n'est pas donné mais je suis plus optimiste à son sujet étant faisable. Update: A couple days ago as a result of the server outage I modified my Global Preferences Overrides to include: <work_buf_min_days>1.0</work_buf_min_days> This provided me with a buffer of 1 full day of work. I noticed that I now have far fewer results pending validation than I did before. I would guess this might be further reduced if I set the value to the 3 to 3.5 that Keith recommended. To be honest Dave, I never thought about how that might affect the quantity of WUs one would have in Pending Validation. However, now that I think about it, it doesn't seem unreasonable to expect it to reduce it somewhat. With the buffer at 0.3, you're basically going to have maybe one WU waiting in your queue plus the one you're crunching. You'll notice that WUs are normally sent out to everyone who will be part of the quorum at about the same time so if each WU that you start crunching you pretty much received in the past few hours, odds are the same is true for the rest of the folks in the qurorum. With a three day buffer, you will normally be starting on a WU that you got in your queue three days earlier (since you'll normally be crunching first in, first out) so the rest of the folks in the quorum will have had three days to crunch it. That's what will reduce the quantity you have in Pending Validation at any one time. Now if EVERYONE went with a three day buffer, we'd be back in the same situation as if we used the default. It's the fact that everyone has different values that makes this possible. You'll still have WUs in Pending Validation though. |

BTW, Charles, I know you're still here crunching with us. Not trying to push you out. Stay as long as you want - even permanently! You're still one of our Top Ten crunchers for the day so that's still quite a few points you're putting out!
