Nope. That should normally be all you need to do.
Let's troubleshoot some more. (Humour me, some of this may seem daft - but they have been issues for other people). 1) Open ca-bundle.crt in a text editor. Post the first dozen or so lines here. 2) ls -l in the BOINC data directory. Again, post the result here (edit it if you want to mask any hostnames or anything). 3) Post the line you are using to start/stop the BOINC client. 4) Post the entire message log after restarting BOINC. Bear in mind that BOINC will be backing off communication now, so it won't retry for minutes or hours. If you're impatient and you want to reset the clock, you need to delete client_state.xml and client_state_prev.xml, then restart BOINC. If this doesn't help, there are a couple more really complicated things to try before giving up. But that's no fun for anyone. Thank you for persevering with this. Also, if you can tell us exactly what port you are using, we can contact the port maintainer and get this fixed properly for future versions. Thanks again. |

Thanks for all of your help. WCG is a great project doing good work, so I am willing to help as much as I can. In order to keep something working for you, I started a VM running W2K Pro that is crunching some WU until we can get my dual-core Pentium D machine running again.

Okay, I see you're running lots of other projects, so before we go any further I should warn you that deleting your client_state files will lose all work in progress for all projects - as if you did a project reset for all of them. You probably don't want to do that.....
I see you are now getting a different error from WCG. Adding the CA file has fixed the immediate problem only to give us another. :-S I also see you are using an alpha release. 5.8 is the current stable release, and 5.10 is the current beta release, shortly to become the new stable release. 5.9 is - well - the word "buggy" comes to mind. Thanks for your assistance. I have no problems about dumping the client_state.xml file or anything else that will help. I understand that it can lose credit for all projects but I care less about credit and more about science.
If you know of a older x86_64 version or a newer 5.10.x version that I can test then I would be happy to help. Todd |

rest assured, you only loose credit on jobs in progress. After resync, credits are put back in the projects tab :D

5.9.11 x86_64 is what I am currently running since I tried to upgrade from 5.8.17 x86_64. I was running 5.4.x which was working well but some of the projects have started to require 5.8.x or higher and I when I upgraded WCG stopped working.

I have should have mentioned it eariler. Yes, we are running MS ISA Server 2000 and I am using NTLM Authorization Proxy Server from http://ntlmaps.sourceforge.com to be able to connect through the MS Proxy.
It obviously works, or I wouldn't be able to post this message or do any of the other internet work that my job requires. I did see the bug posting about the 64 bit client having problems with proxies, but I didn't see any reason for that bug. Todd |

If we understood it, we could get it fixed :-D
BOINC has never played well with proxies, particularly with NTLM auth. But at least we have pinned this one down quite precisely. Having neither a proxy nor a 64bit machine, there's not a lot I can do directly. I've added a note to the bug trac, and I see you have too. I'll ask Rom to make it blocking - it seems major enough to me. |
