Nonprofit?

Is the World Community Grid considered nonprofit?

Accounting types out there...can you tell us what (if anything) we could write off for donating the computer time (individual or company)?

Just an idea. Make this project change the bottom line at some corporations, and you could get a HUGE influx of new devices.

Re: Nonprofit?

Hi Joatman

You have a valid point

Thanks for pointing this out, Although, I am just an Advanced Member here and I cannot control the content posted to the Chat Room, however I do endeavour to bring incorrectly posted threads to the attention of the members in a diplomatic manner for the benefit of all concerned
It is not an easy task to redirect peoples thinking for the good of the project as you, as an Advanced Member, will be well aware
Unfortunately there are occasionally going to be a few members that do not read the sub heading under each forum before posting, to enable them to decide if their message is valid for that forum

It may be a better idea if I were to leave this responsibility to the Community Admin and avoid ruffling anyone’s feathers

I realise that the smart thing to do, is to stay out of the line of fire

Unfortunately, it is a fact of life that as a general rule, if you do 100 things that are considered to be good they will go unappreciated

However, if you do 1 thing that is considered to be uncharacteristic it will be highlighted in no uncertain terms

I sincerely hope that you do not think I am being impolite for saying this as it is not my intention to offend any members of this forum

Best Regards

Re: Nonprofit?

I was just having some fun, I see I forgot the smileys wink tongue

I agree that order makes the forums more useful. I did not think that you were being impolite, I see all the helpful posts you do, it demonstrates your dedication to the effort.

It is hard to know how people will take the written word, and sometimes when I am posting I end up taking an excessive amount of time re-writing them to make sure that there is little room for someone to misinterpret my meaning/intention, and that can be tedious. It would be better for me to spend the time worrying about my frequent typos and trasnposition of letters.

For some of the forums, I am not sure of the distinction of purpose. If I am a new member and have a question that I am soliciting support from other members, would it go in "New Members" or "Member to Member" ? Most of the description for each forum is about how "bad" posts will be dealt with, which should be moved to an overall forum use policy statement, and then the description could be dedicated to a better description of what the purposes are for each. Ooops, I just offered feedback and made a suggestion wink

Maybe we can start a thread to solicit some forum use guidelines, things like post in the right forum, try to avoid duplicate threads, show respect, DON'T TYPE IN ALL CAPS, stuff like that. Does this forum software support the concept of "stickies"? (threads that are always a the top of the list even if they haven't been posted to before)

Re: Nonprofit?

smile Hi Joatman

How about a message that says
Please Read this Before Posting Massages
It could be attached to the Post New Thread button and would only activate the first time a member tries to post a new thread
We could then request a set of guidelines from Admin, regarding forum conduct to be attached to this button
This might help to alleviate the proliferation of incorectly posted and sometimes annoying threads
As well as help to take away the frusteration that some of the members are feeling at present
This can go a long way to making everyones presence here a more enjoyable experience
Do you agree

[Edit] You transposed transposition biggrin [Dont worry I spotted It] smile [Does this qualify as a oyymoron]

Re: Nonprofit?

I don't know, I thought it might be better to have a thread that anyone could post in. Something acheivable. I'm assuming that an implementation that would require a software modification would be seen as a low priority and not happen for a long time.

Although the "Start here" forum would be the obvious place to put something like that, only WCG staff can post there, so maybe they can write something up and put it there, and we can have a separate thread to discuss changes to it.

I guess if there is a thread to discuss forum etiquette, we should make sure that it also includes some statement about staying on topic, and avoiding thead "hijacking" like it seems I have done with this one (sorry RickLifebook)
