Just remembered when the relaunched HPF2.... let me dig.... and yes regrettably the news says: Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2 available for Linux and Mac-Intel http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=12909 Let us poke the techs to see if there are enough denial requests from the PPC platform.... they log that. No hope, no promises, but it's a long term project, so they might have sympathy. Sek...you da man. I knew I never saw a HPF-2 work unit for my PPC! It looks like I did not also look hard enough on the forums for myself. So sorry. So let me ask this....are they going to stop making work units for the PPC in future projects? ![]() |

That latter query I left of from my previous reply as a comment .... it's a probability and all depends on the active requests from machines on that platform and not the odd request on a forum. knreed sees exactly how many failed requests come thru from what platform and have posted in back-room.

There is not a PPC version of HPF2 for Mac. HPF2 requires GCC4.0 libraries that are not available for the PPC and thus cause the science application to return error results back. I will look into the minimum requirements for Mac on the page and adjust it. This is what I got from tech support on why there are no work units for HPF2 on the PPC OSX platform. Thought I would post it so others with this same question would know why. |

marysduby, not sure what it got to do with hpf2 on mac-ppc, but ah lah we're easy....
----------------------------------------Last week we had discussions on this and the () conclusion is that if u would e.g. pick up a machine with 5x the mhz, you'd have that for not 5x price, yet you'd run that at 5x less the power consumption.... less noise, less heat, less management, less CO2 contribution, less space, less money, etc etc... and given the efficiencies of the newer processors probably > 5x the work. 2.1 cents
