If you had HPF2 work before on that machine, it merely means that at that point of time a batch has to be prepared for the PPC platform, as the feeders ran out of supply.... there's work for HPF2 thru Dec-'08 so is the estimate.

If you hate to run dry, select the 'alternate work' backup option. It would temporarily cause for the machine to pull other work.

sowwy

PS I know there is MAC work for HPF2 (wcg_hpf2_rosetta_5.19_i686-apple-darwin), but never read explicitly it was ported to the PPC platform.

From the WCG minimum requirements page.

For the Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2 project, the minimum requirements are:
* An Intel or PowerPC processor
* At least 250 MB RAM (with virtual memory enabled)
* 600 MB Hard Disk Drive with at least 100 MB available for use
* The ability to display 8-bit graphics at 800x600 resolution
* Operating System: OS/X

Since there has not been any work units for a long time, as far as I know, for the power PC running OSX why don't you edit this page to make it accurate. confused

Work may be there right now....got'ta edit the page...and the work might have run out....got'ta edit the page...and there might be more work....got'ta edit the page

The basic requirements are set at the beginning of the project, and it would be too much to expect to change them to match temporary outages on an hourly, daily or even weekly basis. If it is like that for a month, it might be worth revisiting.

This forum needs an overhaul.
My vote is to split the tech support and chat into separate forums.
It already is. THIS project area is not chat. The chat area IS chat, in essence. That is an overflow for most everything else that doesn't have enough for a separate area. Some may say that it does, but IBM moves slowly and deliberately about such things. Major forum juggling will not happen until a future release is implemented.

First of all his forum is the cause of members leaving. crying Sad but true. I know people who have and it's usually because of a CA's smart @$$ comment or people who have no life and camp out here thinking everything they type is gold. tired
Make the forum a tech support only and get rid of the other headaches. d oh

Secondly, I don't think there every was any HPF2 work units for the PCC. I've never seen one. Honest. angel Can you prove me wrong? Any admins want to prove me wrong? cool

That was a statement of what we would have to do to make it work, not a smart @$$ comment.

Perhaps we should limit our comments to one hour per day and ignore anything other than that. If this wasn't in the proper hour, wait until somebody answers you tomorrow. We're being bashed pretty hard around here for just trying to get everyone crunching. We need more. Give some advice and we'll see how you qualify.

That goes back to what the machine can do then. Some very small PCs have obtained work by expanding virtual memory.

Most people I have seen BLAST some message out here AS THEIR FIRST POST and leave before anyone can even say anything to help them with their problem.

Here's something about gold. I got my third call today in about as many months from BCC Precious Metals. I asked whether they had any Yttrium. I got several moments of silence. All they had was gold, platinum, silver and palladium, about the most non-precious precious metals there are.

Where does the forum draw the line? Most of the flames and vitriol at the moment are religious flogging in the chat area and the team area.
I have tried to hold back and posted only one neutral comment and other single sentences to give it a rest. It continues. The admins are starting to wake up.

Fine. straight face
Sorry about the "smart @$$" comment but there are a lot of people with very soft shells and take offense very easily. Being a farm boy who went into roofing and then a sys admin...my shell is pretty tough, although, I would never take the job of a CA. No way no how. Good luck to the administration on getting this forum under control. They will need it. d oh

The PPC mac that I have is a G5 dual 1.8 Ghz with 1.5 gig of ram. Pretty much empty 150 gig hd. That should get a work unit if available...right? confused

much more than enough, on the surface...
What BOINC version? Can you set both projects and pick up FAAH as an alternate? Is it a difference between one project and another? Your abstract above of what it is doing sounds reasonable but somebody else might spot something. It might be worth posting several BOINC messages in the area of when you try to get work and your numerical device number assigned, in case a tech wants to run it down. If you've had work before we're trying to make sense of it all.

I have both FAAH and HPF2 in my own PC queue, but it's not MAC related. They are finishing up some GC workunits.

I'm running boinc 5.10.7. If I check this box in my prefs: "If there is no work available for my computer for the projects I have selected above, please send me work from another project (this option only applies to BOINC agents)." I get a periodic Genome unit and FAAH. But if I uncheck it I get nothing except the periodic Gonome unit. Most of the time it sits idle. Just now I checked the box and I got 2 FAAH units which says they will be done in 9 hours. But I prefer to do HPF2 if I can.

Re: PPC Mac and HPF-2

Just remembered when the relaunched HPF2.... let me dig.... and yes regrettably the news says: Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2 available for Linux and Mac-Intel http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=12909

d oh

Let us poke the techs to see if there are enough denial requests from the PPC platform.... they log that. No hope, no promises, but it's a long term project, so they might have sympathy.
