Hi all,
I have boinc 5.8.16 installed. I am running the graphical boinc_manager too. Message from boinc manager in the message pane is just this :- Saturday 12 May 2007 09:32:07 PM IST||Fetching configuration file from http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/get_project_config.php Saturday 12 May 2007 09:32:17 PM IST||Contacting account manager at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ The boinc_manager says account manager is unavailable. Hi shirish,
----------------------------------------WCG is one of very few left that do not allow BAM to write / setup an account. It has to be done manually with the BOINC, advanced, add to project, www.worldcommunitygrid.org, tick existing member, member name, password. Before doing this, check in My Grid > My Profile that you have a BOINC account and CPID assigned. Your second copy paste of terminal data indicates you are in fact attached and have received work. Just reading in the back room update that IBM (who runs the servers for WCG), is going to do a security audit on BOINC. Will be a while before anything filters thru, recommendations are communicated and BOINC program adapted, before BAM will be allowed in. cheers

Ok tried going through .boinc_mgr > Advanced View
----------------------------------------In Advanced View > Tools > Attach to Account Manager There in Account Manager URL gave :- www.worldcommunitygrid.org Then it communicates with worldcommunitygrid server & then asks for Username & password. There is no place to tick for existing user information. Hence proceeded with adding my name (shirish) and with my 6 letter password (xxxxxx) after which it communicates with the server & then there is an error In messages it says :- Account Manager error: file not found so what could be the issue. Am I entering something wrong? By BAM you mean Boinc Account Manager or what? [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 12, 2007 5:44:26 PM] |

Please Shirish, "Attach To Project", Not "Attach to Account Manager".
----------------------------------------The Simple View for BOINC, which is only available on Windows I think has a direct front end "Add Project" button. The "No account manager" error is a bit confusing as now i think after you ask about BAM, that you are in fact not using it. Yes it means BOINC Account Manager and allows a central managing from e.g BOINCstats.

Please Shirish, "Attach To Project", Not "Attach to Account Manager". The Simple View for BOINC, which is only available on Windows I think has a direct front end "Add Project" button. First of all the Simple View for BOINC is also available for Linux. We have both the simple view as well as the more Advanced View. Right as far "Add Project" is concerned, it says I'm already attached to the Project. BAM or Boinc Account Manager will need some time to get upto speed I guess :( [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 12, 2007 5:47:55 PM] |

That's correct. Depending on what the update frequency rate is that you told it to run. Anyway you've got WCG work, the rest should sort in time.
----------------------------------------Thanks for advising on the Simple View for Linux.... never seen. The install instruction "Standard GUI" as an suffix on the Berkeley download page page made me think they were talking of the regular BOINCmgr "Advanced View" interface. happy crunching

shirish, if you want to attach to BAM!, then you need to use the BAM! URL in "attach to Account Manager" - WCG isn't an account manager, and I think that's where your confusion lies.
If you have attached to WCG, then you are hopefully happily crunching. Account managers merely make configuration a little easier if you are attached to many projects. |

Right which means I was thinking right, but unless it also comes under BAM (centralized accounting) its useless for us. WCG only has partial Account Manager support. But it should be enough, unless you want to do anything complicated.
What do you want to do? |

Just forget it for now. I would have been far more happier if BAM was totally there as it would have given me much better idea as to what has been happening. Right now only the Connected to localhost on the status bar (extreme right) is the only way to know that things are right.
