You can raise the processing priority of WCG by bringing up Task Manager, right click on the application, "Set Priority", "Normal". I use this setting and noticed WCG results almost doubled with no noticable affect to my system. If I do some heavy number crunching, I just lower the priority back to "Low". Give it a shot. I wouldn't go higher than Normal on a shared system as it does have a noticable affect. On the systems you use only for WCG, I'd set them higher and see what happens. Peace - Out. Doing this does absolutely nothing for the speed of execution of the science projects. It's regulated internally of the application !!!!!!!! The Throttle tool allows to grab MORE idle cycles if it's increased from the default 60% to 100%. That will increase the performance over default by 67%. Why you could possible perceive improvement is, when you run UD agent on a dual core and your "If i do some heavy number crunching" happens to take place on a different core. The science would then not have to back-off for another higher priority process.

Setting the priority of the application has a large effect when there are other applications running simultaneously at higher priorities. During a Google Desktop reindex, WCGrid receives very few cycles because Google runs at Normal priority and takes all available cycles. WCGrid runs at Low and gets very little system time. This is also true of McAffe, Outlook, etc..
I agree that running WCGrid on its own processor gives it a great amount of processing power but I didn't purchase a dual core to only run WCG on the second core. It vies for the second core just like all the rest of my applications. |

If you are prepared to accept the performance degradation, that's fine. But please don't recommend it as a general practice. WCG deliberately runs at the lowest possible priority.
